WASHINGTON, DC: Online posts went viral claiming that US Senator John Fetterman had been targeted in a “deep state plot to kill him” in November 2025. The reports suggested that shadowy forces within the government were attempting to silence him, but how much of this story is true?

Claim: John Fetterman targeted by deep state plot

According to the narrative circulating online in November 2025, the Democratic Party allegedly tried to silence Fetterman through a foiled plot to kill him.

One user on X posted the headline, “Deep State Plot Foiled: Democrats’ Lethal Bid to Silence Fetterman as Trump Exposes the Corrupt Elite,” claiming that the Newsmax network had reported the story.

Another Facebook post further amplified and repeated the same message.

The issue began spreading on November 13, the same day a Fetterman spokesperson posted on the senator’s official X account that he had fallen during a morning walk and was hospitalized.

The statement explained that a ventricular fibrillation 'flare-up' caused him to feel light-headed, fall, and strike his face, resulting in minor injuries. The post noted that he was “doing well.”

The claim portrayed Fetterman as a populist outsider who threatened entrenched bureaucratic interests, prompting shadowy actors to orchestrate a hit.

Fact Check: No evidence of plot to kill John Fetterman

A detailed review shows no credible evidence supports the claim that Fetterman was targeted in any deep state plot to kill him.

On the same day Fetterman’s fall was reported, the account shared the fabricated story on Facebook, falsely claiming he had written it himself.

The story tech billionaire Bill Gates and concluded with dramatized language such as, “It’s time to wake up, Trump’s leadership is the bulwark against this one world tyranny, and Fetterman’s ordeal is the smoking gun that could finally bring them down.”

The post also misleadingly tagged Newsmax as '@newsmax,' even though the network never published such an article.

The claim circulated further in an Instagram video with voice narration that appeared to be AI-generated. Other users spread the story by copying and pasting the text on Facebook and X.

The opening and closing sentences of the story included hallmarks of AI-generated content, including dramatized wording urging people to 'wake up' and referring to 'Fetterman’s ordeal' as a 'smoking gun.'

Although the fabricated story did not directly use the word “satire,” previous posts from the same account had included terms like 'satire' later in the text, signaling the story’s false nature, which many readers could overlook.
