WASHINGTON, DC: As the conflict in the Middle East escalates following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, which has led to the death of a few American soldiers, a rumor began circulating online claiming that the majority of citizens of the United States are against the war in Iran, sparking speculations. Let us analyze and fact-check the viral claim.

As the United States’ and Israel’s war with Iran has intensified, a claim has been circulating that the US is engaged in an unpopular war, according to American citizens.

The claim surfaced after the Pentagon reported on Tuesday, March 10, that 140 American service members have been injured so far, among whom 108 have returned to duty, but eight have been severely injured.

The war has even led to oil prices fluctuating wildly, which could mean rising prices for gas and other goods.

Fact Check: True, polls suggest most US citizens are against the war

The claim is indeed true, as it is backed by various polls. According to the latest Quinnipiac University poll, 53% of voters oppose the US military action against Iran, while 40% support it. In addition, 74% of voters oppose sending U.S. ground troops into Iran, while 20% support it.

Polling analyst Tim Malloy said, “Voters are unenthusiastic about the air attack on Iran, and there is overwhelming opposition to putting American troops on Iranian soil to fight a ground war.”

Additionally, a majority of voters do not think Iran posed an imminent military threat to the US before the current military action against it, while 39% think it did.

Polls from CNN, Reuters/Ipsos, and The Washington Post all showed that about 60% opposed the war, which is consistent with the latest Quinnipiac poll.

As American forces carry out military operations targeting Iranian military sites, President Donald Trump said the United States will work to keep casualties 'to a minimum.'

The administration has emphasized precision strikes against strategic targets while avoiding broader escalation and limiting risks to the US forces and civilians.

The remarks come as the conflict with Iran intensifies and sparks political debate across the United States.

Supporters argue the operation focuses on military infrastructure to weaken Iran’s capabilities, while critics warn the situation could expand into a longer regional conflict if tensions continue to rise.
