NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Byron Donalds (R-Fla) responded to MSNBC host Joy Reid's allegation of him being a "fake proof" of Black people being MAGA on Sunday, May 27, reported Newsweek.

An acronym for Make America Great Again, MAGA is the slogan coined by former President Donald Trump during his first presidential campaign in 2016 and has since been used to describe his loyal supporters.

Joy Reid's comments on Byron Donalds

An ally of the presumptive GOP nominee Trump as well as his potential vice presidential candidate, Donalds spoke at Trump's campaign rally in the South Bronx on Thursday, May 23.

Reid commented on it on the Friday episode of her show 'The ReidOut', claiming Donalds was being used as a prop by the Republican Party.

Trump floated Donalds as a potential VP pick to add to his "tomfoolery," said the anchor, as Donalds is "the one Black guy that Republicans love to roll out as fake proof that Black people, the Blacks, are just MAGA, they're MAGA–it's a joke."

Byron Donalds' response to Joy Reid

During an interview with Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday, Donalds was asked his take on Reid's statement, and whether they were directed ath the Republican party or him specifically.

In response, the Congressman described Reid's statement as "nothing more than crabs in a barrel."

"Just because I have a different viewpoint, a different way of looking at the world, different politics, now all of a sudden I'm being used? You could make an argument that MSNBC is using her," he hit back.

"The rally in the Bronx was amazing. You had a very diverse crowd, people from the Bronx, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Black people, white people, all there supporting President Trump. They want Donald Trump back," added Donalds.

Internet reacts to Byron Donalds' response

Commenting on the story, a reader wrote on the Newsweek website of Donalds, "I don't know about 'Fake Proof' but he surely is a 'Fake brotha'."

"The Trump Campaign is in desperate need of more minorities to make fools of themselves by groveling at the Big Orange One," stated another.

"There are no black leaders in the GOP. All the black people in the GOP are treated like yes men. Servants of Trump. People paid to say 'It's so horrible to call republicans racist for constantly gerrymandering black people's votes so much they don't count anymore!' Same as NWA said about black cops - they go super extra bigoted just to get the approval of the white ones," claimed a third.

"Yes, the last time Trump was in power he used Homeland Security in body armor to beat and injure BLM protesters across the entire USA and bragged about it outside the White House while he hid in his bunker. What Black White House staff did he ever have? Omarosa saw his lies and walked out!" exclaimed a fourth user.

"No integrity in maga land," jibed a fifth.
