NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: MSNBC host Joy Reid took aim at former President Donald Trump and Republican Congressman Byron Donalds during her show on May 24, referring to Donalds as "the one Black guy that Republicans love to roll out as fake proof that Black people" support Trump's candidacy.

Reid also mocked Trump's claims of widespread support from residents of the Bronx, where he had recently held a campaign rally, especially the endorsement from criminally charged rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow accused of murder who goes by the name Michael Williams and Tegan Chambers respectively.

Highlighting the Trump campaign's attempt to woo non-white voters Reid asked, “If Trump has so many supporters in New York, why aren’t they showing up in droves to support him at his trial where the courthouse is literally just a subway ride away?”

She was referring to Trump’s criminal trial in Lower Manhattan where he was accused of falsifying business records.

Reid observed that during the former president's trial, only one Trump supporter appeared outside the courthouse on May 21.

“Usually, there are none,” she said, adding, “Trust me. I’ve been there. And to top off this tomfoolery, Trump floated Florida congressman, Byron Donalds, as a potential vice presidential pick.”

On the show, Reid also pointed out that Rep. Byron Donalds was among several Republicans who implied that the FBI intended to use "lethal force" against Trump during the execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago in 2022, despite the former president not being present at the time.

“Donalds, who backed Trump’s lie that Biden authorized the feds to take him out – that guy,” she said.

She added, “The one Black guy that Republicans love to roll out as fake proof that Black people – the Blacks – are just MAGA."

"They’re MAGA. It’s a joke, and just as credible as when they pretended they were gonna make that guy speaker of the House, ’cause they weren’t gonna do that either," Reid concluded.

The MSNBC anchor's criticism of Rep Donalds, a Black Republican from Florida, who had spoken at Trump's event in the New York City borough on May 23, came after Trump ventured into one of the most heavily Democratic counties in the country, staging a rally in the South Bronx to attract minority voters just days before a Manhattan jury is set to commence deliberations on his felony charges in the criminal hush money trial as per the Associated Press

“The strategy is to demonstrate to the voters of the Bronx and New York that this isn't your typical presidential election, that Donald Trump is here to represent everybody and get our country back on track,” said Donalds.

During his Bronx rally on May 23, Trump mentioned to the audience that prominent business leaders frequently ask him what motivates him to start his day.

He also falsely attributed the October 7th terrorist attacks in Israel to the "rigged" 2020 US presidential election.

A follower observed, "The Bronx is NOT seeking a “dictator wanna-be.”Wrong territory."

One comment stated, "The Bronx has over 1.443 million residents and it was reported the crowd was probably no more than 3,500 people and maybe half of those were not even from the Bronx! Lol."
