WASHINGTON, DC: US Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday, May 23 dismissed former president Donald Trump’s claims that the FBI had been authorized to shoot him during 2022 Mar-a-Lago searches as “false” and “extremely dangerous.”

The Attorney General's comments have sparked a wave of reactions on the internet from Trump supporters, with many accusing him of lying.

Merrick Garland says FBI followed standard operation that limits lethal force during Donald Trump's raid

Garland told reporters that Trump and some of his allies were referring to a “standard operations plan” that limits when agents can use lethal force while executing search warrants, according to Reuters.

"The document that is being referred to an allegation is a Justice Department standard policy limiting the use of force," Garland said while answering the questions from reporters.

He said such policies are routine and were also in effect "during consensual searches of Biden’s homes" conducted by the FBI in a separate classified documents investigation.

Donald Trump accuses the DOJ and Joe Biden of a plan to kill him

Trump, however, has been sending out fundraising messages claiming that the FBI was authorized to attempt an assassination.

“BREAKING FROM TRUMP: BIDEN’S DOJ WAS AUTHORIZED TO SHOOT ME!” read one fundraising e-mail, titled “I nearly escaped death.”

He also doubled down on the claim by posting on Truth Social on Tuesday while referring to the document.

He wrote, "WOW! I just came out of the Biden Witch Hunt Trial in Manhattan, the 'Icebox,' and was shown Reports that Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ, in their Illegal and UnConstitutional Raid of Mar-a-Lago, AUTHORIZED THE FBI TO USE DEADLY (LETHAL) FORCE. NOW WE KNOW, FOR SURE, THAT JOE BIDEN IS A SERIOUS THREAT TO DEMOCRACY. HE IS MENTALLY UNFIT TO HOLD OFFICE — 25TH AMENDMENT!"

Internet dubs Attorney General Merrick Garland 'extremely dangerous'

Netizens have reacted strongly to Garland’s comments. One user wrote, “It right there written out…” Another added, “Sending the FBI to Mar Lago with shoot to kill orders was what was dangerous.”

Yet another user commented, “I don’t believe it for one minute. I also don’t believe it was necessary for the raid to begin with.”

“Documented. Liar!” wrote one user. “Garland is extremely dangerous,” wrote another.

Some users pointed out that the authorization for deadly force was documented and that it was not as bad as some made it out to be.

"It's in black and white. How is it false?" asked one.

“Falling back on we are just following standard policy is not a good answer when the policy is corrupt. Media should have pushed back,” suggested one user.

Another user claimed that Garland had specifically authorized the use of deadly force, even when top FBI officials objected, saying it was too aggressive.

"Sadly he is a liar, and the records show it was true, and that he specifically authorized the use of deadly force, even when top FBI officials objected saying it was too militaristic, and they should just ask Trump for permission to search."
