FBI foils plot targeting UFC White House event, multiple suspects arrested
WASHINGTON, DC: Federal authorities say a potentially dangerous plot tied to the high-profile UFC America 250 event in Washington was disrupted before it could be carried out, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects in a multi-state operation just days before thousands gathered for the heavily publicized celebration.
The revelation came from FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday, June 16, who disclosed that investigators moved swiftly after learning of a possible threat connected to the event, which drew major political figures, business leaders and combat sports fans to the nation's capital.

FBI foils plot before UFC event
According to Patel, federal authorities became aware of the potential threat on June 10.
While officials have not revealed exactly what the suspects allegedly intended to do, Patel said the individuals involved were located outside the Washington metropolitan area and were taken into custody before any attack could be carried out.
The FBI director described the operation as a coordinated effort involving federal law enforcement agencies and the Justice Department.
In a statement, Patel said investigators acted quickly after identifying the threat and were able to stop the alleged plans before they reached the execution stage.
"Our law enforcement partners became aware of a potential threat," Patel wrote, adding that a multi-state operation resulted in several arrests and prevented what he described as planned attacks.

Mystery surrounds alleged plot
Despite announcing the arrests, authorities have released few details about the case.
Officials have not disclosed the identities of the suspects, the number of people arrested, the motive behind the alleged plot or what specific targets were involved.
The lack of information has fueled questions about the seriousness and scope of the threat.
Patel indicated that the investigation remains active and suggested additional information could emerge as court proceedings move forward.
For now, federal officials appear determined to keep many details under wraps while investigators continue gathering evidence.

Trump caught off guard
Interestingly, President Donald Trump appeared unaware of the development when questioned by reporters during the G7 summit.
Asked whether he had been briefed about the alleged attack plans, Trump responded that he had not heard about them.
"I haven't heard about it, no," the president said.
When informed that the FBI had reportedly disrupted an attack, Trump jokingly shifted the conversation back to the sporting spectacle itself.
"The attack I watched were the fighters," he remarked.
The US Secret Service, which played a role in securing the event, said it worked closely with the FBI throughout the investigation.
Director Sean Curran praised agents and security personnel who spent days tracking leads and identifying individuals connected to the alleged threat.
