BRADDOCK, PENNSYLVANIA: John Fetterman, a first-term Democrat senator, has sided with the state of Israel in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, much to the disbelief of his party colleagues.

Fetterman's responses to pro-Palestinian protesters who demonstrated outside his home have been controversial.

Instead of engaging with the protestors, he unfurled a large Israeli flag from the rooftop of his house, as protesters were heard chanting, “Fetterman, Fetterman, you can't hide. You're supporting genocide.”

This is not the first time Fetterman has made a public show of his support for Israel.

During a rally for Israel in Washington DC, he arrived draped in an Israeli flag, per a report by Daily Mail.

Furthermore, in November of last year, Fetterman was seen waving an Israeli flag in protesters' faces outside the Senate.

His front office is also covered with posters highlighting missing and returned Israeli hostages.

Regardless, it remains to be seen how Fetterman's actions will affect the broader discourse surrounding the ongoing conflict and the relationship between the US and Israel.

Intra-party rift erupts as Senator Fetterman stands resolute behind Israel

Members of Fetterman's own party have chastised the non-Jewish politician for his unwavering support of Israel's right to self-defense against Hamas after the October 7 attacks.

He has been an outspoken ally of Israel, emphasizing the tragedy that befell the Israelites.

With the number of deaths in Gaza rising and even President Biden accusing Israel of an "indiscriminate bombing campaign," a serious breach within the Democratic Party has emerged.

Fetterman remarked, “I do find it confusing where the very left progressives in America don't seem to want to support really the only progressive nation in the region that really embraces the same kind of values I would expect we would want as a society.”

He claims to be the only senator whose office is graced with both an LGBTQ flag and a prisoners of war banner.

“Can't it be possible that it's really appropriate to stand for both?” Fetterman argued.

Fetterman has been an unwavering supporter of Israel for years.

In April 2022, the then-Lieutenant Governor and Senate candidate expressed his commitment to strengthening and enhancing the security of Israel and deepening the relationship between the United States and Israel in an interview with Jewish Insider.

He attacked his Democratic colleagues early in the conflict for hurriedly blaming Israel for a Gaza hospital explosion.

Fetterman wrote in a post on X, “It's truly disturbing that Members of Congress rushed to blame Israel for the hospital tragedy in Gaza. Who would they take the word of a group that just massacred innocent Israeli citizens over our key ally?”

In an interview with NBC News last month, Fetterman explained, “I'm not a progressive. I just think I'm a Democrat that is very committed to choice and other things. But with Israel, I'm going to be on the right side of that. And immigration is something near and dear to me, and I think we do have to effectively address it as well.”

Internet befuddled with Fetterman's unwavering support for Israel

Senator Fetterman's remarks have led to mixed reactions on social media.

One X user remarked, "No way the left is going to keep supporting John Fetterman. He must have had some reboot, because he is sounding more based than many of the so called conservatives in congress."

Another said, "I don't know what's gotten into him since his stroke, but I like it."

Someone else quipped, "Did he get a visit from God during his stroke?"

One user wrote, "I still don’t trust him and believe he is mentally unstable and should not be in office."

Another remarked, "Man went from self-proclaimed socialist to trump republican because of a stroke he may be one of the voices of 2024."

A tweet read, "Fetterman 2.0 is fantastic."
