'Firings are coming': White House insider reveals artists exploited Freedom 250 for publicity
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's plans for a major celebration marking America's 250th anniversary have descended into turmoil after several performers backed out of a festival tied to the White House.
Freedom 250, the Trump-affiliated organization behind the anniversary festivities, announced that acts including the Commodores and Vanilla Ice would perform at the Great American State Fair, scheduled to run from June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall.
But within hours of the lineup being unveiled, five of the nine announced performers withdrew from the event, citing concerns over its connection to Trump.
Several artists said they believed they had signed on for what was presented as a non-partisan celebration of America's 250th birthday, only later learning about its ties to the administration.
Freedom 250 lineup collapse sparks White House turmoil
The fallout has reportedly triggered chaos inside the White House, where Trump has made the anniversary celebration a personal priority.
The president established the planning task force by executive order shortly after returning to office, naming himself chairman and taking a direct role in preparations for the milestone event.
According to one White House insider, frustration inside the administration has reached a boiling point.
"Allowing Z-list celebrities to embarrass the president like this, in a world where actual celebrities like Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj actually support him, isn't just embarrassing, it's grossly negligent, and firings are coming," the insider told the Daily Mail.
The source added, "It's a circular firing squad over there. Some artists hadn't even been contractually locked down before the announcements were made."
Trump intervenes amid Freedom 250 fallout
The situation intensified when Trump personally intervened.
Taking to Truth Social, the president called for the fair to be scrapped altogether and replaced with a rally. He also suggested he could serve as the main attraction himself, boasting that he could attract "much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime."
"Cancel it," Trump wrote, describing the scheduled performers as "overpriced" and "boring" and saying they "do nothing but complain."
"I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally," he added. "Same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited."

Behind the scenes, organizers are said to be furious. Some believe they were deliberately misled by performers who never intended to appear and instead used the announcement to generate publicity for themselves.
"They have been irrelevant for years, and my theory is that they just wanted their 15 minutes of fame. It was a publicity stunt," a source familiar with the planning told the Daily Mail.
Despite the departures, organizers insist the artists had already been paid and remain contractually obligated to appear. Still, they say they have little interest in forcing unwilling performers onto the stage.
"We'll get the money back. We could force them to play - we've already paid them, they are under contract - but it's not worth it," the source added.
Freedom 250 lineup sees mixed response
The latest performer to withdraw was Poison frontman Bret Michaels, who became the fifth artist to leave the lineup.
Michaels said he was concerned about the safety of his family, friends, and bandmates after the concert "evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of."
He joined Morris Day, Young MC, the Commodores, and Martina McBride, all of whom said they had initially been approached about participating in a non-partisan tribute to America's 250th anniversary before discovering the event's ties to the Trump administration.
That said, not everyone has headed for the exits. Vanilla Ice, a frequent performer at Mar-a-Lago, confirmed he still plans to take the stage.
"I'm here to party with America, man. Music is made to bring people together, and that's what we are here to do. And we're just gonna represent the 90s," the rapper told TMZ.

Vanilla Ice remains on the bill alongside Flo Rida, C+C Music Factory, and Milli Vanilli as organizers move forward with the trimmed-down lineup.
