Linda Perry is not judging Nicki Minaj for supporting Trump: 'She's suffering by her own decision'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Linda Perry has shared her two cents on the drama that began after Nicki Minaj revealed in an interview that she actually began supporting President Donald Trump way before she publicly admitted it.
Minaj also shared with Time magazine what led her to become a Trump fan. Her disclosure led to a public backlash, as well as a few celebrities also thrashing her.
Linda Perry says Nicki Minaj is supporting Trump because she 'wanted something from The Office'
Now, Perry has expressed her views on the Pop Shop Podcast.
“It seems that she wanted something from The Office and was trying to maybe help herself, a friend, a boyfriend, whatever. And was promised something and felt that it was worth the risk - the take - you know,” the musician said.
She then gave an example, mentioning that sometimes, some kind of situation makes us do things without thinking clearly.
Linda Perry believes Nicki Minaj is 'judging herself enough'
“If my best friend or someone in my family needed something and I had to go begging and grovelling to somebody to get it to happen, I probably would’ve made a bad judgment as well. Because sometimes when we’re thinking about loved ones or trying to get out of a situation, we’re not thinking clearly,” the 61-year-old noted.
The ‘4 Non Blondes’ singer also stated that she’s not judging the 43-year-old rapper because she thinks “she’s judging herself enough and she’s suffering by her own decision.”
“I don’t think we need to go ahead and make her feel worse than she probably already does,” Perry added.
Nicki Minaj said she supported Trump even before voicing the opinion in public
Perry's comments came after Minaj opened up about her decision to support Trump in a recent interview with TIME Magazine. The rapper praised the President's charm, saying, “It's the same way Marilyn Monroe represents a vibe. Donald Trump is his own vibe.”
Minaj went on to reveal that she already supported Trump even before voicing her opinion in public. “I felt that way already about him, just that I didn't dare act like that publicly. It's been ingrained in everyone's brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family. I just knew they would not like me supporting Trump,” she said.
The musician went on to claim that “Many celebrities feel the way I do, but they don't say it,” adding, “Sometimes, you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change.”
