LOS ANGELES, CALIFORANIA: Charlamagne tha God blasted Nicki Minaj the rapper revealed she secretly supported President Donald Trump for years because the music industry was a “Democratic family.”

Speaking on ‘The Breakfast Club’, Charlamagne criticized Minaj after her recent TIME magazine interview, where she detailed why she eventually decided to publicly embrace Trump and his MAGA movement.

“I don’t care what Nicki Minaj thinks at a time like this. Trump’s tariffs got the cost of household goods through the roof, the war he got us in got gas prices through the roof, inflation is high, social services have been cut, people’s healthcare has been cut,” Charlamagne said.

Charlamagne tha God says Trump policies hurt Nicki Minaj’s fanbase

Calling out the rapper further, Charlamagne tha God added that “support whoever you want politically but you also need to know how that person’s policies are impacting the people who probably support you, your actual fanbase.”

The radio host’s comments came after Minaj told TIME magazine that she initially kept quiet about her political views because “in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family.”

The ‘Anaconda’ singer also claimed she became more right-leaning around 2022 and 2023 after her multimillion-dollar mansion was swatted multiple times.

Nicki Minaj says Gavin Newsom ignored her plea for help

Minaj shared that she attempted to contact California Governor Gavin Newsom after the swatting incidents but alleged that she was ignored.

However, when her home was reportedly swatted again in 2025, Minaj said she received support from Anna Paulina Luna, the former model and Turning Point USA activist-turned-congresswoman from Florida.

“I was shocked. I’d never seen anyone in politics treat me that way,” Minaj said.

“That’s what made me say that I don’t care to keep this a secret anymore,” she added while explaining why she decided to publicly support Trump.

Minaj also claimed during the interview that several celebrities support Trump privately but are afraid to admit it publicly.

“Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change,” she said.

Internet remains divided over Nicki Minaj’s Trump support

Minaj’s comments and Charlamagne’s reaction quickly divided social media users, with supporters and critics clashing online.

One Instagram user wrote, “Freedom is living in your truth out loud. We love you Nicki”

Another supporter commented, “Nobody has this energy for all the other celebs that support that man. Please.”

“Nicki can vote for a rock and ima still sticks beside her idc,” another fan added.

Critics, however, accused Minaj of seeking attention.



“I told folks she’s doing this for attention… she saw folks moved on without her and she needs people to pay attention to her because her brand isn’t hitting like it did before. She’s a narcissist who craves attention,” one X user wrote.

Another user sided with Charlamagne, writing, “Charlamagne tha God is speaking the truth. People are struggling to survive while Trump and his cult distract everyone with celebrity drama instead of fixing the economic disaster they created.”



A separate commenter defended the rapper, stating, “Why always mention Nicki Minaj? Was she the only one to openly support republicans??? You are literally a full grown man and coming for a woman constantly.. Speak on the other black men supporting Trump.”
