PANAMA, FLORIDA: It's alleged that a man left his deceased wife's body on the living room floor for several days, allowing his dogs to gnaw on it.
Gary Dean Johnson, the 60-year-old defendant, is said to have told Panama City Beach, Florida police officers that he did it because he "did not want to lose her," as per Law & Crime.
Gary Dean Johnson reported unknown person at home
The arrest affidavit states that Johnson called the police on Saturday in an emergency.
Officers wrote, “The resident of the above address, Mr Gary Johnson, contacted 911 and advised an unknown person was in his home, and that his wife, Ms Evamarie Macgregor, was laying on the floor and he believed she was deceased.”
Shortly after, police attempted to speak with Johnson but received no response, according to records.
According to the affidavit, one of the responding officers observed a woman lying supine on the living room floor and noticed what appeared to be blood surrounding her through the front window.
When they made another unsuccessful attempt to get an answer, police forced their way inside the house. At last, they were able to contact Johnson.
Dogs chewed Evamarie Macgregor's foot
The officer further wrote, “Ms Macgregor was obviously deceased with the skin missing from her face and her entire left foot was completely removed from her leg.”
“On scene, Mr Johnson appeared to be disoriented and not lucid. Mr Johnson stated his two dogs had chewed on Ms Macgregor’s foot explaining why her foot was removed and missing."
“Mr Johnson stated this happened approximately 4 days ago and at that time he knew she was deceased,” officers said.
“Mr Johnson then kept her in the floor of the living room because he did not want to lose her. Mr Johnson knew he should have called law enforcement or medical help when the medical episode occurred with Ms Macgregor. It should be noted by the level of decomposition of Ms Macgregor she appeared to have been deceased for over 5 days.”
Johnson is still being held in the Bay County jail for improperly storing human remains, with a $5,000 bond. It was informed by a staff member of the local public defender's office that although they will take up the case officially on Wednesday at the arraignment, they will not comment until then.
