Gavin Newsom claps back at Dana Perino after she slams Trump-style tweet parody: 'They still don't get it'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: California Governor Gavin Newsom fired back at Fox News host Dana Perino after she scolded him for using social media to parody President Donald Trump’s all-caps posts.
Newsom’s press account responded with a defiant message: “ALMOST A WEEK IN AND THEY STILL DON’T GET IT.”

Gavin Newsom hits back at Dana Perino with defiant message
Hours after Perino told Newsom to “put the phone away” and stop posting in Trump-style rants, the governor’s press office retweeted her remarks with a mocking all-caps response.
Newsom has spent the past week imitating the president’s online tirades, posting satirical messages about Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin and referring to himself as “AMERICA’S FAVORITE GOVERNOR.”

In one post, Newsom wrote, “TRUMP JUST FLED THE PODIUM WITH PUTIN — NO QUESTIONS, NOTHING! TOTAL LOW ENERGY. THE MAN LOOKED LIKE HE’D JUST EATEN 3 BUCKETS OF KFC WITH VLAD.” He continued, “MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING HE BEGGED PUTIN TO HOLD HIS HANDS (TINY) ON THE WAY OUT. ADMIT IT, DONNIE J… YOU’RE TERRIFIED BECAUSE THIS WAS THE WORST WEEK OF YOUR LIFE BECAUSE OF ME, GAVIN C. NEWSOM.”
Dana Perino tells Gavin Newsom to stop tweeting like Trump
On Monday’s edition of 'The Five', Perino criticized the governor’s online behavior.

“You have to stop it with the Twitter thing,” she said. “I don’t know where his wife is. If I were his wife, I would say, ‘You are making a fool of yourself, stop it!’ Do not let your staff tweet, and if you are doing it yourself, put the phone away and start over.”

She added, “He’s got a big job as governor of California, but if he wants an even bigger job, he has to be a little bit more serious.”
In a follow-up post, Perino wrote, “Copying isn’t a good look and it isn’t working – he should come up with his own original content.”

Gavin Newsom supporters say parody is deliberate
Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau countered Perino’s critique, writing, “I mean, it’s pretty clearly a parody of Trump’s absolutely insane all caps, often non-sensical posts. Probably why all the people in my life who aren’t political junkies keep reaching out to say they don’t know much about Newsom but think the tweets are hilarious… Humor and mockery can be quite effective!”

Humor and…
Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher also weighed in Friday, August 15, calling the posts “childish” and questioning what Newsom hoped to accomplish.
