Gavin Newsom mocked as big win over Trump fizzles fast after appeals court pauses National Guard ruling

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: President Donald Trump regained temporary control over National Guard troops deployed in Los Angeles, just hours after California Governor Gavin Newsom celebrated what he believed was a significant legal victory.
The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals intervened swiftly, issuing an administrative stay that blocked a lower court's ruling, which had granted Newsom authority over the state’s National Guard forces, reports Deadline.

Donald Trump takes back command of deployed forces in LA
The decision came only a few hours after US District Judge Charles Breyer granted a temporary restraining order, ruling that Donald Trump's move to send 4,000 National Guard troops was not legally justified.
The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals' three-judge panel, made up of two Trump-appointed judges and one nominated by former president Joe Biden, ruled that the federal government would retain control for now. A virtual hearing on the issue has also been scheduled for June 17.

“The request for an administrative stay is GRANTED,” the panel stated in an order, effectively reasserting federal oversight over the 4,000 National Guard troops currently stationed in Los Angeles. An additional 700 Marines remain embedded with them. These forces were originally federalized on June 7 by Trump in response to surging anti-ICE protests.

While the ruling doesn't guarantee the court will eventually side with Trump, it does allow him to retain control over the National Guard for the time being.
A section of downtown LA, covering federal buildings, City Hall, several courthouses, as well as nearby galleries and entertainment spots, has been under a strict dusk-to-dawn curfew for several days now, with no end in sight. Since the order was issued by LA Mayor Karen Bass, police have been detaining demonstrators and others who linger in the area after hours.
California Governor Newsom was visibly relishing what seemed like a win over his frequent adversary, Trump. He took to the podium on the evening of Thursday, June 12, holding a brief press conference where he framed the moment as a triumph for democratic principles.
The courts have ruled.

“Today was really about a test of democracy, and today we passed the test,” Newsom said.
"California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next."

A Trump supporter proudly wrote, "I voted for all this winning," whereas someone else added, "Excellent! Common Sense prevails."

One simply shared a GIF of a man laughing, possibly to mock Newsom's loss.
