WASHINGTON, DC: California Governor Gavin Newsom openly mocked and criticized President Donald Trump’s repeated claims about the respect he supposedly commands from world leaders.

Speaking at a Politico event in California on Wednesday, August 27, Newsom delivered a blunt fact-check, revealing the less flattering opinions global leaders reportedly share about Trump behind his back, challenging the president’s narrative head-on.

Trump has long boasted about the “respect” he claims to command from world leaders. However, Gavin Newsom delivered a blunt reality check on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Politico event in California, Newsom said, “I’ve had the privilege of meeting a lot of foreign leaders. They’re laughing behind his back.”

Known for mimicking Trump’s bombastic social media style in recent weeks, Newsom emphasized that his remarks were based on “dozens and dozens” of interactions with global leaders and officials.

“They’re laughing behind his back. He’s being played everywhere. It’s an embarrassment,” Newsom added.

Newsom’s comments recall viral footage from Trump’s first term showing world leaders apparently mocking him behind his back during a reception at Buckingham Palace.

In the video, voices can be heard exchanging remarks such as, “Is that why you were late?” and “He was late becuase he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top.”

Another voice adds, “Oh ya ya ya ya, he announced,” while someone else observes, “You just watched his team's jaws drop to the floor,” all amidst shared laughter.

The clip circulated online with a caption noting, "@JustinTrudeau, @EmmanuelMacron, @BorisJohnson and other VIPs shared a few words at a Buckingham Palace reception Tuesday. No one mentions @realDonaldTrump by name, but they seem to be discussing his lengthy impromptu press conferences from earlier in the day."



 

In another notable incident, world leaders openly laughed during Trump’s 2018 United Nations General Assembly speech as he proudly recounted his administration’s achievements. The video, which quickly went viral, was shared with the caption: “WATCH: Laughter in UN General Assembly as President Trump touts his administration's progress in past 2 years, "Didn't expect that reaction, but that's OK.’”

The video of Gavin Newsom’s claim that world leaders are pushing back against Trump quickly went viral, sparking a flood of comments and shares online.
