Gayle King issues fiery statement after CBS renewal: ‘Rumors of my demise were greatly exaggerated’
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Gayle King has revealed that she is not leaving CBS and has renewed her contract with the network after earlier reports claimed she would be exiting when her contract ends in May.
In a new statement, the TV personality said, “Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated. CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission. I’m excited about continuing at CBS Mornings.”

“As always, I'm open to new adventures here and ready to go. It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in,” King added.
Bari Weiss, who was named CBS editor-in-chief in October last year, also reportedly confirmed King’s future with CBS.
“There is only one Gayle King. We’re so proud that she’ll continue to call CBS home. We’re thrilled to have her on in the morning, and equally excited to work with her on new, enterprising projects that bring her talents to new audiences,” she stated.

CBS News President Tom Cibrowski also added, “Gayle and Nate Burleson are fantastic partners on the show, and morning TV is more vibrant than ever. We are excited to continue to evolve ‘CBS Mornings’ and can’t wait for what’s to come.”
Reports of King not continuing to be part of CBS began when many staff members were laid off after Weiss took over the network.
Addressing it, King, during a December 2025 episode of Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, said, “I saw those rumors. What I say is this: ‘I’m not going to negotiate in the press. I hear one thing in the building and one thing outside of the building. I’ll be reading one thing, and I’m like, ‘that’s not true.’”
“I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama, and there is some drama,” the 71-year-old stated at the time.
Gayle King marks 14 years on 'CBS Mornings'
This January, the broadcast journalist celebrated her 14th anniversary as co-anchor on the morning show, and like every year, she wore the now-iconic yellow and white dress that she donned on her first day on the show.
“I knew for the first day, I knew I wanted to wear yellow because it’s my happy place. And I don’t know why I started doing it, but I said, 'I’m only going to wear this dress on my anniversary.' I love it so much,” King shared.
