NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A heated verbal battle between two fallen political figures vying for the favor of former President Donald Trump became an object of online mockery and amusement on Friday, January 5.

Disgraced former Congressman George Santos and failed gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani engaged in an hour-long sparring match over who enjoyed a closer relationship with the embattled Trump.

Their digital clash, filled with bravado, insults, and arrogance, lent itself to ridicule from internet commentators.

New York's politicos George Santos and Andrew Giuliani spar over ties with Trump

A war of words broke out on social media platform X on Friday between two controversial New York political figures - George Santos and Andrew Giuliani. The heated online exchange saw the two men lob insults and accusations over who was closer to former President Donald Trump.

Santos, the former Congressman who was expelled from Congress in December of 2023 amid accusations of resume fabrication and campaign finance violations, kicked things off by tweeting at Giuliani: "I'm 100% confident you are and will always be DJT's favorite caddy!”

Giuliani, still smarting from his failed 2022 gubernatorial bid and coping with his father Rudy Giuliani’s ongoing legal and financial troubles, snapped back: “Seeing as Trump doesn’t even want to be in the same ballroom as you, I’ll take that as a compliment!"

What followed was an hour-long sparring match filled with juvenile taunts and hyperbolic claims over their relationships with the ex-president. In one notable jab, Santos attacked Giuliani’s credibility, writing “Just can’t stop making stuff up to be relevant can you? Cry because you’ll never be the man your father is. Now sashay away.”

A third individual chimed in, labeling the altercation as "the cat fight we all needed today," while someone else described it as a "Battle of the D-List Celebs: delicious."

Adding to the array of opinions, a fifth user likened the spat to "high school mean girls drama," while another user amusingly observed, "It's funny when two irrelevant people fight on Twitter over just how irrelevant they are."

Andrew Giuliani's father recently filed for bankruptcy in New York after losing defamation case

Several weeks ago, Rudy Giuliani's son, Andrew, saw his father declare bankruptcy after a court's directive to settle a $148 million defamation lawsuit. The legal order stemmed from accusations of defamation against two Georgia election workers, alleging vote tampering in the 2020 presidential election, as ruled by a judge, according to BBC.

Documentation accompanying the filing revealed Giuliani's substantial debts in unpaid taxes and legal fees. A spokesperson for Giuliani highlighted that this bankruptcy move shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, affirming, "no person could have reasonably believed that [Mr. Giuliani] would be able to pay such a high punitive amount."

Ted Goodman, Giuliani's representative, conveyed that the bankruptcy filing in New York aimed to afford Giuliani the opportunity for an appeal while offering transparency into his financial status under the supervision of the bankruptcy court.

In early 2023, the 79-year-old former mayor acknowledged his financial struggles attributed to mounting legal expenses and costs.
