WASHINGTON, DC: Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani found himself in hot water after making disparaging remarks about Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss again outside the courthouse following the first day of his defamation trial in Washington, DC.

In December 2021, a mother-daughter pair of Georgia poll workers filed a lawsuit against Giuliani, the attorney for former President Donald Trump's re-election campaign, after the latter accused them of engaging in election fraud during their vote-counting duties at Atlanta's State Farm Arena the previous year.

The duo claimed that they were subjected to a barrage of violent and racist threats and harassment following Giuliani's comparison of the mother and daughter to drug dealers at a state legislative hearing and in television interviews.

However, Giuliani’s claims were proved false when state election officials investigated his allegations and discovered no evidence of significant fraud in President Joe Biden's win.

US District Judge Beryl Howell declared Giuliani liable for defamation in August after he declined to contest the lawsuit's main allegations.

Howell has previously ruled that Giuliani must compensate Freeman and Moss $89,172 for legal fees and for his businesses to reimburse them $43,684 in sanctions for refusing to share emails and other records in the case.

In the defamation damages trial, which began on Monday, December 11 with jury selection and opening statements, a jury will determine how much he owes two former Georgia election workers for defamation.

What did Rudy Giuliani say about Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss?

After the first day of the trial, Rudy Giuliani left the courtroom and reiterated his main accusations against Freeman and Moss, telling Terry Moran of ABC News that he has no regrets about his treatment of the election workers.

"When I testify, the whole story will be definitively clear that what I said was true, and that, whatever happened to them -- which is unfortunate about other people overreacting -- everything I said about them is true," Giuliani told reporters, according to ABC News.

"Do you regret what you did to Ruby and Shaye?" Moran asked to which Guiliani replied "Of course I don't regret it. I told the truth. They were engaged in changing votes."

"There's no proof of that," Moran responded. "You're damn right there is," Giuliani then retorted, adding "Stay tuned."

Internet reacts to Rudy Giuliani’s comments

After Giuliani’s remarks surfaced on social media, many users blasted him for defaming Freeman and Moss after the defamation trial hearing.

“Sue him again,” one user attacked. “It will add to the damages. He's a creep!” a second user slammed.

“This man has no shame that he ruined the lives of two innocent women doing their civic duty as poll workers. He’s liable for damages, and the price should be very high,” a third user fumed.

“He's trying to duplicate Trump. Go ahead Rudy see how far you can get away with these lies. You should be criminally charged tomorrow morning!” a fourth user said, while a fifth one wrote “He deserves everything that’s coming his way. Stay tuned!”

“So he is just going to continue to defame them. Genius, Rudy.🙄 Get out your checkbook,” one more wrote.
