WASHINGTON, DC: One of Donald Trump's most prominent former allies is sounding the alarm over a comment she believes could haunt Republicans in the next election cycle.

Former Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, on Wednesday, June 10, sharply criticized the president after he declared that he “loves inflation,” arguing that the remark is politically damaging at a time when millions of Americans are struggling with rising costs.

Greene warned that Democrats could seize on the statement for years.

During an interview with CNN, Greene did not hold back when discussing Trump's remarks about inflation following the latest economic report.

“I remember during the Biden administration, that was one of the biggest issues that MAGA would scream at the top of our lungs about,” Greene said, noting that Republicans spent years attacking Democrats over rising prices.

She argued that hearing Trump embrace inflation was jarring for many voters who supported him specifically because of economic concerns.

“To hear the president say today that he loves inflation is absolutely outrageous,” Greene said.

“That's a punch in the gut to every single American that is struggling to pay their bills, struggling to pay grocery prices and struggling to basically keep up while their credit card debt is mounting and mounting,” she added.

Greene went even further, predicting that the comment could become a major liability for Republicans.

“You know, that one's going to come back and bite him,” she said. “He basically just handed the Democrats a great big campaign ad for the 2026 midterms.”

The controversy erupted after Trump reacted positively to newly released inflation figures during an Oval Office appearance on Wednesday.

When asked whether he was concerned about inflation accelerating in May, Trump rejected the premise and praised the latest economic numbers.

“No, I love it. The numbers were great,” Trump told reporters. He later repeated the sentiment, saying, “I love the inflation,” while discussing economic developments and energy markets tied to tensions in the Middle East.

While inflation was the immediate trigger for Greene's criticism, she also suggested that Trump's political team has done a poor job handling other controversial issues, particularly his position on overseas conflicts.

Greene argued that Trump repeatedly campaigned on promises to avoid new military entanglements and bring ongoing wars to an end.

“You know, his team, his staff, who is supposed to help the president, advise the president and make sure that he is truthful and honest and transparent with the American people, they should be showing him his previous videos,” Greene said.

The former congresswoman pointed to numerous campaign speeches in which Trump promised “no more foreign wars” and pledged to bring peace rather than expand conflicts abroad.

“The Internet does not forgive,” Greene said. “The Internet is making sure that his previous statements of no more foreign wars, bringing world peace, those are everywhere.”

Greene's comments stand out because they come from someone who spent years as one of Trump's most loyal defenders in Congress and on the campaign trail.
