NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, on Monday, April 20, launched a fierce attack against Tim Walz after the Minnesota governor used a speech in Spain to criticize President Donald Trump.

Gutfeld accused Walz of embarrassing America overseas, called him a “traitor,” and mocked Minnesota as the only state ever “conquered by pirates.”

During the segment, Gutfeld said Walz disgraced himself by going abroad and criticizing the sitting US president before a foreign audience.

“Walz goes to a foreign country to bash the president of the United States, and he's the only governor in American history to have his state conquered by pirates. Think about it.”

Gutfeld added that Walz only received applause because many in the room were unfamiliar with his domestic record.

“The only way he can get any recognition is if they don’t recognize him.”

Gutfeld said elected officials speaking overseas still represent the United States and should remember that responsibility.

“If Walz goes abroad to bash Trump, he’s also bashing America because he is the agent for America. He is, in effect, a traitor. But we already knew that.”

The host said opposition parties are expected to challenge those in power, but accused Democrats of abandoning normal political limits.

“You do expect fierce opposition with a measure of responsibility.”

Gutfeld then listed tactics he said were being normalized.

“You can unleash lawfare. You can create hoaxes. You can involve foreign actors. And you can fly to other countries to trash the president. It’s still treason.”

Tim Walz slams Trump's Iran war

Gutfeld's remarks reflect a conservative backlash after Walz used an international progressive gathering to criticize Trump during a tense period of US-Iran diplomacy and ceasefire negotiations.

Walz delivered the controversial remarks Saturday at the inaugural Global Progressive Mobilization conference in Barcelona, an event featuring left-leaning political leaders, activists, and lawmakers from more than 40 countries.

In his speech, Walz warned that the United States was facing an “alarming consolidation of power” under Trump and claimed democratic institutions were under pressure.

He told the audience America was seeing “a massive paramilitary force terrorizing our communities,” along with what he described as the weakening of the free press, the independent judiciary, fair elections, and other accountability systems.

Walz then directly attacked Trump over the Iran conflict, calling him a “feeble-minded, trigger-happy president who plunged us into a war where no threat was present, with no clear objectives and no exit plan.”

He added that such politics should be called “fascism,” before softening it slightly with the phrase “fascist-curious.”

He also targeted JD Vance, telling attendees, “Unlike our current vice president, I’m not here to arrogantly lecture or scold you. I’m not here to pick a fight with the Pope, and I’m not here to host a rally with some wannabe local dictator.”
