'Feeble-minded, trigger-happy': Tim Walz blasts Trump's Iran war before global audience in Barcelona

BARCELONA, SPAIN: Minnesota Gov Tim Walz used a speech in Barcelona on Saturday, April 18, to sharply criticize President Donald Trump, calling him a “feeble-minded, trigger-happy president.”

Tim Walz, among others, accused the president of dragging the United States into conflict with Iran without a clear reason, stated objective or exit strategy during remarks at a major progressive gathering.



Tim Walz targets Trump and JD Vance in fiery overseas speech

Speaking before delegates at the inaugural Global Progressive Mobilization conference, Walz said the United States was experiencing a dangerous concentration of power under Trump.

He told the audience America was witnessing pressure on democratic institutions, including the press, courts, and election systems, while communities were being intimidated by aggressive state force.

“We’ve got a feeble-minded, trigger-happy president who plunged us into a war where no threat was present, with no clear objectives and no exit plan,” Walz said, drawing applause from attendees.

He added that such politics should be confronted directly, calling it “fascism” or, as he phrased it, “fascist-curious.”

Walz then directed his criticism at Vice President JD Vance.

“Unlike our current vice president, I’m not here to arrogantly lecture or scold you,” Walz said. “I’m not here to pick a fight with the Pope, and I’m not here to host a rally with some wannabe local dictator.”



He said his purpose in Spain was instead to thank international allies and discuss how democratic movements can counter authoritarian-style politics in multiple countries.

Prominent Democratic voices slam Trump in Spain

Walz was not the only American voice sharply criticizing Trump at the Barcelona event.

Chris Murphy also delivered stark remarks, saying the US was in a moment of deep democratic strain.

Murphy warned that Trump was seeking control over courts, law enforcement, media institutions, and elections.

He described the present moment as the most serious democratic challenge since the Civil War.

The conference brought together progressive leaders, organizers, and activists from more than 40 countries, according to organizers.

Speakers focused on resisting authoritarianism, defending democratic systems, and promoting social justice agendas across national borders.

Virtual appearances were also made by Bernie Sanders and Zohran Mamdani, expanding the American political presence at the event.
