What were the charges against Gypsy Rose Blanchard?

The 32-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in jail in 2016 for orchestrating the murder of her mother Clauddine 'Dee Dee' Blanchard in 2015 by convincing her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her.

After serving seven years in Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri, Blanchard who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder was paroled. Godejohn, who was convicted of first-degree murder, is currently serving a life sentence.

Blanchard's mother Dee Dee was believed to have suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder in which parents or caregivers exaggerate or fake the illnesses of their children to gain sympathy.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard's stepmother says she went 'overboard' with the plan to welcome her from prison

Kristy Blanchard, stepmother of Gypsy Blanchard, opened up about their family's plan to have a belated Christmas celebration to mark her release from prison. "We're going to do Christmas, got a Christmas tree. Got her so many gifts. I went overboard, actually," said Kristy.

"We're also doing a spa day[...] We're going to go get her a pedicure, manicure, facial, haircut, colored if she wants, you know, the works, bring her shopping. She can't wait," she added.

Kristy further revealed that Blanchard was "glad" to go to prison to escape the abuse she endured throughout the years at the hands of Claudine.

"She said she's glad that she did go to prison because she would have probably stayed in that same pattern that her mom raised her to be," said Kristy, adding "With all the help and classes that she took, she now recognizes that. She has grown so much. It's unbelievable."

Gypsy Rose Blanchard regretted murdering her biological mother

Recently, Blanchard opened up about the 2015 murder as she shared she regretted the murder. However, she was on the "eve of happiness" about her release.

"If I had another chance to redo everything, I don't know if I would go back to when I was a child and tell my aunts and uncles that I'm not sick and mommy makes me sick," Blanchard told People.

"Or, if I would travel back to just the point of that conversation with Nick and tell him, 'You know what, I'm going to go tell the police everything.' I kind of struggle with that," she added.

"Nobody will ever hear me say I'm glad she's dead or I'm proud of what I did. I regret it every single day," she continued.
