Harris’ senior adviser dismisses media dodging claims, says VP is just too ‘busy’ for interviews

PHOENIX, ATLANTA: Keisha Lance Bottoms, former Atlanta Mayor, and Vice President Kamala Harris' senior adviser said on Friday, September 20, that the Democratic presidential nominee is too "busy" to do media interviews and interaction.

Bottoms was questioned by CNN's Jake Tapper on why Harris hasn't been "sitting down for regular interviews or fielding questions from the press" as compared to her GOP rival Donald Trump, per Fox News. 

Keisha Bottoms says Kamala Harris is not dodging the media

During an appearance on 'The Lead with Jake Tapper', Keisha Lance Bottoms was asked, "Why? Why is she not doing more interviews to talk about her policies and answer some of the questions that voters have about her policies and her change on her views on some of them?"

Bottoms replied, "Well, Jake, she’s done interviews. And I know that we would love, or you would love to see her sit down every single day with CNN and do interviews. But it’s that she’s a very busy person."

"She’s the vice president as well as a candidate. And we heard her today talk about her views on these policies."

She added, "It may not be in the format that the media would like. It may not be that she’s sitting down doing a one-on-one interview, but we heard her today in Georgia talk about her stance on reproductive freedom and if she's elected as president of the United States, how she would use the power of the pen to make sure that these freedoms are protected."

Notably, Harris' first sit-down interview since replacing Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket took place almost a month after the president endorsed her. She did an interview with CNN's Dana Bash on August 29. Her running mate Tim Walz was also present in that interview.

Harris and Walz have been a part of 15 interviews since August, whereas Trump and his running mate JD Vance have been in 55. 

Harris has given interviews to Philadelphia’s ABC station, Spanish-language radio host Chiquibaby, and a panel at a gathering of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), per The New York Post.

Harris is yet to give a formal press conference since she became the Democratic nominee while Trump has held many in recent weeks. 

Harris’ lack of engagement with the media has become a constant rallying point for Republicans and critics. She has been accused of dodging the media.

Several social media users trolled Kamala Harris as senior adviser Keisha Laance Bottoms said the Democratic presidential nominee is too "busy" to do media interviews and interaction.

Some online comments read, "Goes to show Harris' priority is elsewhere, not on US."

"She did nothing as VP for nearly 4 years, she says she did nothing because she can't be associated with Bribem, but she's "too busy" doing nothing to answer questions about the job she wants so she can finally do something."

A person also stated, "It all boils down to the voters as to whether they want representation from radicals like Harris and squad members or not."

Another mentioned, "She is no busier than Trump and he seems to have plenty of time to talk with the press and do sit-down interviews. If she can't do this while running for office what makes us think she has the energy to do the job?"

A user also wrote, "Too busy for the people In the country she wants to serve and lead? If she is this way now, imagine what she will do if elected."

Another commented, "Well based on my grocery bill she clearly isn't busy working on fixing the economy, as this person pointed out she currently holds office."

A person added, "If she is too busy to answer those questions, then I am way, way too busy to vote for her."
