WASHINGTON, DC: During his rallies, Donald Trump has been referencing the iconic fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter in many comments.

It is extraordinary when Trump calls Sir Anthony Hopkins' character, Hannibal Lecter from the 1991 movie 'The Silence of the Lambs', the 'late great Hannibal Lecter' because Lecter is neither 'late' nor 'great', according to Meidas Touch.

In a conversation with Deadline Hollywood, Sir Anthony Hopkins offered his opinion. The conversation, which was supposed to center on Hopkin's part in the upcoming Peacock series 'Those About to Die', took an unexpected turn when the reporter brought up Trump's frequent allusions to Lecter.

The interviewer asked Hopkins, "I have to mention one of your greatest characters, Hannibal Lecter because he's come up a lot during this election campaign here in America with Donald Trump speaking about him at his rallies as if he's a real person."

In reply, Hopkins laughed and said, "I didn't know that. Hannibal, that's a long time ago that movie. God, that was over 30 years ago. I'm shocked and appalled by what you've told me about Trump."

Notably, during his lengthy and discursive address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, July 18 night, Trump made his most recent allusion to the mythical cannibal.
