'It’s his fault': Internet skeptical as Donald Trump 'strongly supports' IVF after Alabama court ruling
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former President Donald Trump said he would "strongly support the availability of IVF" after the Alabama Supreme Court's controversial frozen embryo ruling, reported the Associated Press.
The Republican frontrunner took to his Truth Social platform on Friday, February 23 to express his support ahead of the South Carolina GOP primary on February 24.
The February 20 decision by an all-Republican court said, "Unborn children are 'children'… without exception based on developmental stage, physical location, or any other ancillary characteristics."
The first-of-its-kind ruling brought the state's in-vitro fertilization treatment to a standstill as the facilities feared legal risk.
Trump offers support to IVF through Truth Social post
In his first remarks on the issue since the Alabama SC's ruling, the former President said that the Republican party would "always support the creation of strong, thriving, healthy American families," and wanted to "make it easier for mothers and fathers to have babies, not harder!"
"That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every State in America. Like the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of Americans, including the VAST MAJORITY of Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, and Pro-Life Americans, I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious baby," he added.
Further into the post, Trump called on the Alabama legislature to "act quickly to find an immediate solution" to protect the treatment's availability in the state.
The ruling stemmed from two lawsuits, initiated by a group of IVF patients following the accidental destruction of their embryos at a cryogenic storage unit in December 2020, against the Center for Reproductive Medicine is anticipated to have significant implications nationwide.
The lawsuits alleged the clinic's violation of Alabama's Wrongful Death of a Minor Act, which extends legal protections to unborn children.
The former President urged the Republican party to be on the side of the "Miracle of Life," adding, "IVF is an important part of that, and our Great Republican Party will always be with you, in your quest, for the ULTIMATE JOY IN LIFE!"
The recent ruling further exacerbates the growing divide among conservatives concerning abortion and other reproductive rights in a post-Roe v Wade era.
President Joe Biden lashed out at Trump over the "outrageous and unacceptable" Alabama SC ruling, calling it a "direct result of the overturning of Roe v Wade," which was "only possible" due to the conservative SCOTUS judges his predecessor appointed.

Though the ruling will unlikely impact the South Carolina primary results, where Trump is expected to defeat his sole GOP opponent, Nikki Haley, reproductive rights will be a crucial debate point in the November general election.
Internet doubts Trump's promise
Trump's vow to support IVF failed to convince social media users. Being skeptical of his remarks, they claimed the former President did not have a reputation for honesty.
One user said, "He isn't known for his honesty," and another opined, "It’s his fault."
"His internal polling cyst. This issue is a loser… He doesn’t have strong feelings about anything other than self preservation, and putting money in his own bank account," an individual added.

Another user mocked Trump, saying, "He doesn’t even know what it is."
"You will change your mind in a hot minute if the wind blows the other way," one individual wrote. While another response read, "Trump is the one who made it possible for states to ban IVF."
