Naomi Fair recalls devastating moment she learned of son Stephaun's death

Naomi Fair recalled the agonizing moment when she learned of her son's sudden death. She was awakened by a knock on her door from another parent with officers on the phone.

"He didn't call my son name. He just said, 'I'm sorry for your loss,' and I told him, 'No, my son is in his room,'" Naomi recounted, adding, "I ran upstairs and looked in his room and he wasn't there. I immediately started screaming and hollering."

At the time the fatal crash occurred, Naomi believed Stephaun was safe in his bedroom.

The heartbreaking revelation that her beloved son had perished without warning overwhelmed the grieving mother. "I can't express my pain, it's deep. It's really deep," she lamented.

Friends gathered to remember Stephaun's vibrant spirit and zest for life. Madison Mason, a classmate from Klein High School, recalled his perpetual cheerfulness and energy. "He always wanted to play," she said, standing beside a roadside memorial marking the location where Stephaun died.

Stephaun's mother drew comfort from her son's caring friends who came bearing flowers and condolences. Their support brought Naomi solace as she struggled with her profound grief. “With them coming around and visiting me, it’s really keeping me lifted,” she said.

Stephaun's family has established a GoFundMe to finance his funeral and memorial expenses. His mother plans on frequently visiting the site where her beloved son perished to process her grief and honor his memory.

Stephaun Fair was pronounced dead at scene of car crash

The deadly collision occurred when a Chevrolet Malibu carrying Stephaun fled from police officers attempting a traffic stop. The teenage driver accelerated to over 80 mph, clipped one vehicle, and spun out of control - crashing at high velocity into another car, investigators reported.

Surveillance footage showed officers rushing toward the mangled vehicle to check on the occupants. Tragically, Stephaun was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other teens in Malibu were hospitalized, one with continuing treatment a week later. A person in another car sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

In the aftermath of the traumatic crash, the teenage driver was transported to the hospital and then the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center after his discharge. He faces serious charges of felony murder and evading police in a vehicle.
