BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: A Brooklyn woman has been detained by the New York Police Department after a severed head and multiple body parts were found in her freezer.

Heather Stines, 45, was detained on Monday, January 22, after cops received a tip about the finding, as per Daily Mail. As of yet, she hasn't been charged.

Authorities note that DNA testing is underway to determine the identity of the victim. They acknowledge that the human remains have been taken out of the apartment.

An unidentified man was found dead at Heather Stines' apartment

NYPD confirmed they had received a call to visit the Brooklyn residence on Nostrand Avenue at around 7.10 pm on Monday. Upon arrival, the officers reported seeing an "unconscious and unresponsive, unidentified male."

According to a statement, authorities noted, "EMS responded and pronounced the aided deceased on the scene."

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death as the investigation remains ongoing.

It's unknown how long Heather has resided in the apartment, but neighbors told Daily Mail that her home had witnessed a break-in at least twice.

Heather Stines' family and neighbors recall her drug problems

During an interview with the Daily Mail, Heather's elderly aunt, Amy Stines, expressed her shock and fear regarding the incident.

The 79-year-old said, "God, I just can't fathom this," as she shed light on her niece's longstanding drug problems. Amy noted that Heather had moved from Kentucky several years ago in hopes of escaping the said issues.

As per her aunt, the 45-year-old was making some money cleaning apartments while she and her husband lived in a Brooklyn apartment. Amy also claimed that when she tried to contact Heather on Sunday to catch up, she received no response.

According to another family member, Heather's husband, Nicholas McGee, has been detained in a Chesapeake, Virginia, jail since September after he was allegedly caught trying to cash a fake check at a bank.

Nicholas' 55-year-old sister-in-law, Catherine McGee, stated that he was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, January 23 morning.

She told Daily Mail that the couple has been using heroin and crack, leading to multiple arrests. Catherine mentioned Heather had relapsed a "year or two" ago after learning that one of her daughters had died of a drug overdose.

"He's going to be f**king devastated because he's coming out of jail and she's possibly going into jail, for a possible murder," sighed Nicholas' sister-in-law.

As per another couple who reside in the building, Heather was so dependent on crack and heroin that she had sold "everything of value" in her apartment, including her TV.

They added, "She's what we call a garbage can addict, she'll do any drugs, Heather is one of the people bringing this building down, nobody would be sad if she went to jail."
