WASHINGTON, DC: Republican Congresswoman and Donald Trump ally Elise Stefanik voiced her concerns about the well-being of January 6 rioters.

In a conversation with NBC News 'Meet the Press' program with Kristen Welker, the New York lawmaker echoed Donald Trump's reference to prisoners of the January 6 attack as "hostages".

"I have concerns about the treatment of January 6 hostages," Stefanik said.

Her statement was in response to whether she believes the individuals who stormed the Capitol should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Elise Stefanik alleges 'weaponization of the federal government'

Stefanik further emphasized the role of Congressional Oversight in the treatment of prisoners.

"I believe that we're seeing the weaponization of the federal government against not just President Trump, but we're seeing it against conservatives. We're seeing it against Catholics," she claimed.

Pointing it out as the reason for her pride in serving the Congress select committee, she added that the American people wanted transparency and answers.

"They [American people] understand that as you look across this country, there seems to be two sets of rules. If your last name is Clinton or it's Biden, you get to live by a different set of rules than if you're an everyday patriotic American."

Stefanik also defended Trump, slamming his label as a "threat to democracy".

The lawmaker also asserted that the disqualification of the GOP frontrunner from the Colorado and Maine ballot was the fault of Biden and the Democrats, expressing the opinion that "Joe Biden and Democrats are a threat to democracy".

Internet slams Elise Stefanik

Calling her an "embarrassment," social media users are outraged at her unwavering support of Trump and the failure to recognize the difference between hostages and rioters.

An X account named Republicans against Trump shared two images and wrote, "Dear Elise Stefanik It seems that it's a little difficult for you to understand the difference between hostages & rioters who are being prosecuted in their own country for breaking the law. Let us help you."

One user said, "Her district should be embarrassed."

Another user remarked, "The upside down world where criminals miraculously are viewed as hostages. Deplorable."

"Elise knows that she is spreading lies on behalf of Trump and his criminal supporters," read a third reaction.

A fourth user added, "Vote them ALL OUT! My former political party is unrecognizable."

"She’s seriously calling them hostages? They’ve been tried & convicted. They’re criminals! Gawd this woman is a disgrace!" stated an outraged user.
