Here's why Bill Maher feels Harris' media silence is 'more insulting' than Trump's attacks on press

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bill Maher has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her limited engagement with the press, suggesting that her approach is more dismissive than former president Donald Trump's contentious relationship with the media.

On his show 'Real Time', Maher discussed Harris' media strategy with CNN's Kaitlan Collins, drawing a stark comparison between the two.

Bill Maher questions Kamala Harris' lack of media engagement

Kamala Harris, who has been in her role for over a month, has yet to participate in any interviews or hold press conferences, leading to growing concerns about her accessibility.

Maher openly challenged Harris' decision to avoid the press during his show on Friday, August 23.

"What do you think about the fact that Kamala doesn't talk to the press?" Maher asked Collins, pointing out what he views as a more subtle form of media dismissal compared to Trump's overt attacks, reported Fox News.

"In a way, I feel like it's more insulting than what Trump does," Maher added.

"Trump says you're ‘the enemy of the people,’ which is pretty bad. What she's kind of saying is, 'I don't need you. I'm not talking to you. You don't matter. You're not relevant anymore to me.' To me, that's even worse than ‘I hate you.’ It's like 'I don't think about you,'" he explained.

Kaitlan Collins responds to Bill Maher's critique of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump

CNN's Kaitlan Collins, who has extensive experience covering Donald Trump, offered her take on Bill Maher’s comparison.

"I don't know if it's worse than denigrating the press on a daily basis, which is what Donald Trump did," Collins remarked.

"He would try to get into a personal argument with you, or just deny or lie about what you were asking about," she said.

Collins also expressed that Harris should be more willing to engage with the media.

"I do think she should talk to the press. I think anyone who wants to have access to the nuclear codes should be willing to sit down and take questions. And we want to have her on the show," she added.

Bill Maher's take on Kamala Harris' continued silence evokes criticism

Kamala Harris has yet to engage in any interviews or press conferences since her nomination, contrasting sharply with Donald Trump, who regularly faced the media despite his often contentious interactions.

Some questioned her avoidance, with one X user asking, "Why she avoiding?"

Others criticized Maher, accusing him of leaning towards right-wing propaganda, saying, "Bill Maher has turned into a right-wing propagandist."

Someone voiced concern about Harris' lack of media engagement, remarking, "Kamala Harris avoiding journalists is the worst she could do."

However one defended Harris, saying, "What a bunch of whiners. Kamala is taking care of really important stuff now. She’ll get to you all in good time."
