CARSON CITY, NEVADA: On Tuesday, March 19, President Joe Biden embarked on a strategic tour through Nevada and Arizona, aiming to bolster his economic policies and appeal to the crucial Hispanic electorate in these battleground states.

Biden wasted no time in launching a sharp critique of his Republican rival, former President Donald J Trump, accusing him of disdain towards Latinos.

Biden criticizes Trump

"This guy despises Latinos," Biden declared in an interview with Univision Radio aired on Tuesday, criticizing Trump's economic agenda and proposals for mass deportations. “I understand Latino values," he said.

The visit underscored Biden's concerted effort to address his perceived weaknesses in the economy, immigration, and slipping support among Latino voters.

Recent polls have indicated a shift in Latino support towards Trump, prompting Biden to adopt a more aggressive stance as he enters the general election campaign against his predecessor, the New York Times reported.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, fired back at Biden, accusing him of prioritizing "illegal immigrant criminals" over American citizens.

“President Trump will secure the Southern border and deport illegal criminals to protect ALL American citizens,” Leavitt said in a statement.

In states such as Nevada and Arizona, Latino voters hold significant sway, constituting approximately one-fourth of eligible voters.

Despite Biden's win in these states in 2020, Trump has succeeded in gaining support from a diverse Latino electorate, including evangelicals and individuals focused on border security concerns.

Surveys indicate Trump's increasing appeal among Latino voters, with some polls suggesting him leading Biden among this demographic, a significant departure from historical trends favoring Democrats.

In his Univision interview, Biden condemned Trump's derogatory remarks about migrants and attributed blame to him for obstructing legislative efforts to reform immigration policies.

“He says immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood’ of this country, separated children from parents at the border, caged the kids, planned mass deportations systems,” Biden said. “We have to stop this guy. We can’t let this happen. We are a nation of immigrants.”

He also alleged that Trump played a role in derailing an immigration bill that was progressing through Congress. "And guess what? Donald Trump got on the telephone, and this is a fact, started calling senators and saying don't vote for that or you'll be a victim of my retribution," Biden continued. "And so guess what? It stalled."

Biden reiterated his commitment to humane immigration policies, contrasting his approach with Trump's alleged practices of family separation and mass deportations.

"I'm never going to separate families. And I'm still working to reunite those separated under Trump," Biden said.

"He separated kids and parents at the border and engaged children [sic]. Planning mass deportations of literally several million people who are here in the country. Several million people," Biden went on to say.

"I mean, this guy despises Latinos," he added.

Internet slams Biden's remark on Trump

However, Biden's remarks faced criticism on social media, with some accusing him of pandering to the Latino vote and others alleging his failure to address the concerns of legally immigrated Latinos.

"Trump despises Latinos? Well, Biden is beholden to the Latino vote and has opened the border wide for them. Old Scranton Joe may lose the election over this," one posted on X.

"That’s because he’s bleeding Hispanic support and he’s desperate. The Dottie ring old fool’s liable to say ANY damned thing," another fumed.

"Biden is a racist clown. He thinks all Latinos are illegal aliens," someone else alleged.

"Biden is hemorrhaging the Latino vote most all who came to America legally and even some who didn't see what democrats are doing and want no part of it the Cubans who fled Castro are a prime example," another user said.
