'He's not going to win': Chris Christie mocked for saying he wouldn’t pardon Trump if elected POTUS in 2024

TRENTON, NEW JERSEY: During an interview on the talk show 'The View', Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie, was asked by co-host Joy Behar if he would pardon former President Donald Trump if he were to be convicted of a crime and Christie were to be elected US president in 2024.

In his response, the former Governor of New Jersey stated that he would not issue a pardon for Trump, in contrast to fellow GOP presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, who have both expressed their intent to pardon the former president if elected.

The matter of whether a presidential pardon would be granted to a convicted Donald Trump has become a topic of discussion among potential GOP presidential candidates ahead of the general election in November, this year.

What did Chris Christie reveal during 'The View' interview?

“No, no, no, no,” Christie said interjecting Behar in the middle of asking the question.

To support his arguments, he drew on his prior experience serving as Governor of New Jersey.

“As a governor, I issued pardons,” Christie clarified.

He continued, “And one of the things you have to do is look at the person. The person has to accept responsibility for what they did. Do you think Donald Trump will ever accept responsibility for anything he did?”

“It’d be really the easiest pardon decision I would ever have to make as president,” Christie said in his answer to Behar’s loaded question.

“You don’t accept responsibility? Too bad. Go to jail,” he remarked.

Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner for the 2024 presidential election, is currently facing four indictments for a total of 91 charges, per a report by The Hill.

Two of these cases have been brought by special counsel Jack Smith's office.

One of the cases is related to Trump's efforts to hold on to his position after losing the 2020 presidential election, while the other is related to his deliberate retention of confidential government documents even after being subpoenaed for classified records.

Governor Chris Christie has also expressed his unwillingness to grant Trump a pardon for the government documents case.

Christie told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo in July of last year, “Let’s say with the documents case — which is the only one that the president would have jurisdiction over. Given what’s alleged in the indictment, if that were proven, and … the former president were found guilty, as long as I thought he got a fair trial … I would have a hard time considering any pardon.”

Christie made his remarks on Wednesday following his criticism of other GOP presidential contenders for, in his words, not being able "to tell the truth about" Donald Trump.

Another user said, "Christie sounds like a disgruntled former employee. No credibility."

One user quipped, "Lol obviously he’ll NEVER have to worry about that ."

"He can say whatever he wants because he knows there is 0 % chance he will become president.," a user wrote on X.

"It’s easy to say that when you know you have a snowballs chance in hell of being elected," a user tweeted.
