Hunter Biden moves out of US amid mounting legal troubles, court filing reveals
WASHINGTON, DC: The former first son, Hunter Biden, has reportedly left the United States over mounting legal trouble around unpaid fees for lawyers.
Law firm Winston & Strawn LLP is suing Hunter Biden for over $50,000 in unpaid legal fees regarding his representation in Delaware gun and California tax cases.
Hunter Biden flees US amid legal problem
According to the court document tied to a civil lawsuit over unpaid legal fees, Biden currently does not live in the United States. "Mr Biden lives abroad," his attorney, Barry Coburn, disclosed his current living situation.
"He cannot pay his current lawyers,” the court document stated. Hunter fled the US a year after his father, Joe Biden, departed from the Oval Office in 2025.
The document was submitted in a Washington, DC, civil court by Winston & Strawn LLP, which previously represented him in several criminal cases.
Hunter Biden cannot afford specialized legal team
The court document reveals that the former first son has not paid a significant portion of fees to his legal team. Hunter Biden reportedly cannot even afford a specialized legal team to assist him with the lawsuit due to a limited source of income.
The court document cited instances when Biden manually "hand-searched" his own emails to locate relevant documents rather than relying on outside resources.
During his appearance on the podcast, Hunter Biden revealed that he has a whopping debt of $17 million, adding, “it relates to my legal fees."
Hunter Biden may have relocated to Cape Town
While it is not where Hunter has relocated to, there are speculations that he would have moved to Cape Town in South Africa, where his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, is originally from. The 56-year-old indicated last year that he had been visiting the place.
"When all of the political and personal stuff came to an end in the last six months, I had always promised that we would spend some time over here," Biden said during a November appearance on 'The Wide Awake' podcast, based in South Africa. "We're trying to be between Cape Town and the States, go back and forth."
Describing Cape Town as the most beautiful city in the world, Hunter said, "I've fallen madly in love with Cape Town," he added. "You guys do not know how good you have it here.”
