'Dont look for me': Tou Ger Xiong joked about being kidnapped in online post before he was lured to death
MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA: Popular comedian and a well known social activist Tou Ger Xiong shared pictures with his Colombian female companions, including an attractive redhead, before he was inveigled by a woman, abducted, and murdered this week, authorities said.
Xiong, who was known for his works in the Twin Cities Hmong community, was seen in a delightful mood with an unnamed redhead while dining at a Korean restaurant located in Medellin on October 20.
Tou Ger Xiong's unsettling Facebook posts before his death
In a video Xiong posted on Facebook, he said, "This is Korean food, with my girl", while he showed his bowl of beef soup before panning to the smiling redhead with a distinctive tattoo reading 'Never Give Up' on her neck sitting across the table. According to the New York Post, the Korean restaurant workers said the duo had recently eaten there together.
However the outlet has not confirmed if the same woman is behind the murder of the 50-year-old American. Last summer, a smiling Xiong was seen standing between two glammed-up ladies in a now-eerie Facebook post. He jokingly penned in the caption, "In the event I get kidnapped, don’t look for me. I am happy.”
Tou Ger Xiong was planning to meet a woman in Colombia
As of now, it is also unknown if the woman in the picture has anything to do with Xiong's fatal abduction last week. The comedian came back to Medellin earlier this month, telling friends he planned to meet a woman he had been chatting with online.
So far, authorities have released little to no information related about the lady who allegedly led him into a kidnap plot, but confirmed they have arrested her after looking at the recent pictures on his phone.
Tou Ger Xiong was held at gunpoint
Xiong called his roommate in Colombia at about 7 pm local time on December 10, saying that he was kidnapped and held at gunpoint by a group of men. As per the local newspaper El Colombiano, the group demanded a $2,000 ransom for his release.
The publication reported the ransom exchange never happened and Xiong was later found in a ravine, dead from multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.
What did Tou Ger Xiong's brother say?
Xiong’s brother, Eh, told the publication that his brother remained in touch with a mystery woman for a long time before they decided to meet for a date. “He had been in contact with this woman before, and she was part of the ‘new friends’ he made on his trips down there,” brother Eh Xiong, 56, said of his brother’s fatal trip.
Eh Xiong told the StarTribune his brother was aware of the recent surge in the kidnapping of tourists in Colombia, but said he never felt compromised visiting the country. “He was aware of it,” Eh Xiong said, adding “But he’s one of those people who only assumes the best in people. It’s almost like a second home, he loved it there.”
Tou Ger Xiong loved Colombia's 'lively energy'
Xiong's brother said that he often posted his adventures on his social media stating that he loved Colombia’s 'lively energy' and had several friends there. Xiong wrote a poignant and heartfelt caption in one of his last Facebook posts.
“Sometimes relationships end. Family members can grow apart, best friends break up, divorce happens, and work colleagues get fired. That’s life," he penned.
"When that happens it’s OK to set our egos aside and move on. Gossip, envy, deceit, jealousy, and lies are all self-injected poisons that will slowly kill you up from the inside. They eventually destroy everything you once were and prevent more beautiful things to grow inside of you," he continued.
“So instead of revenge and death to all, choose self-love, forgiveness, and compassion. Beauty cannot grow inside a heart full of anger," he concluded the post.
