WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sparked outrage after describing the US as "one of the worst countries" during a scathing interview that aired on the Democracy Now! YouTube channel on Friday, June 13.

Referencing her roots in Somalia, the far-left firebran said, “I mean, I grew up in a dictatorship and I don't even remember ever witnessing anything like that to have a democracy, a beacon of hope for the world to now be turned into one of the, you know, one of the worst countries, where the military are in our streets without any regard for people's constitutional rights.”

Ilhan Omar targets Donald Trump for 'destroying' America

Ilhan Omar's comments came after President Donald Trump put on a military parade to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Army, which also happened to fall on Flag Day and his 79th birthday. While the celebration was meant to honor American service members, Omar saw something much darker on the horizon, Fox News reported.

“Our president is spending millions of dollars [propping] himself up like a failed dictator with a military parade,” she said.

“It is really shocking, and it should be a wake-up call for all Americans to say this is not the country we were born in. This is not the country we believe in, this is not the country our Founding Fathers imagined, and this is not the country that is supported by our Constitution, our ideals, our values, and we should all collectively be out in the streets rejecting what is taking place this week,” the congresswoman stressed.

She blamed Trump for the supposed unraveling of America.

“I think the person who is in the process of destroying our country should look in the mirror and that's Trump. And notice that he is the one that has hatred for the values that we have here in America and everything that we have built,” Omar said.

“The reality is protest, dissent, is constitutionally protected. That is everybody's First Amendment right in this country,” she noted.

Ilhan Omar’s comments drew quite a backlash on social media and beyond.

Conservative commentator Guy Benson blasted her on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "The hyperbole here is appalling, made worse by her astounding ingratitude." The Minnesota Democrat came to the US as a refugee in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen at the age of 17 in 2000.

Meanwhile, OutKick’s David Hookstead wasn’t buying her outrage either, particularly when it came to Trump's military parade.

“If people are seriously offended by a parade for the first time in decades, then go outside and touch some grass,” he wrote in an article. “We have the greatest military on the planet, and we shouldn't ever apologize for it. After all, our men died to try to protect innocent lives in Somalia. I guess that sacrifice just doesn't matter to Congresswoman Omar.”

Others on social media didn't hold back one bit.

An X user wrote, "Ilhan Omar it is people like you the reason America streets are the way they are today but thanks to President Trump, ICE, Police and our Constitution they are getting cleaned up. We are sick of your rhetoric."

"I’ll pay for her ticket back to Somalia since she hates America so much," another wrote.

"She doesn't have to stay here. America's door swings both ways. Hey @realDonaldTrump can we deport her?" someone else asked, tagging Trump.

"Dear .@IlhanMN GTFO go back to somalia maybe that is a wonderful democracy where you will be safer," read another tweet.

An individual who claimed to be Omar's constituent wrote, "I can’t express enough how revolting it is to have @IlhanMN as my congressional representative. This country rescued her from a collapsing, war-ravaged wasteland, and her response is to sneer at the very hand that fed her."

"She’s not just ungrateful—she’s a venomous ingrate who despises the nation that gave her everything. Her presence in Congress is an insult to every American who actually gives a damn about this country," they added.
