WASHINGTON, DC: Steve Bannon, the intermittent advisor to former President Donald Trump, contended that President Joe Biden's lackluster showing in last week's debate might actually prove to be deleterious to Trump.

"Trump’s Thursday was a Pyrrhic victory.… You’re going to take out a guy you know you can beat and beat badly, and we’re going to have a wild card," Bannon said in an interview with the Washington Post Sunday, June 30.

Steve Bannon reveals why Donald Trump could be in deep trouble

The president's poll numbers would plummet as a result of Biden's performance in last week's debate, according to Bannon who is scheduled to report to prison on Monday, July 1, to serve a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. That being said, Trump and the Republican Party would not be pleased with this development.

"This is the best guy we’re ever going to get," Bannon said of running against Biden, arguing that not only would Trump win big, but that the GOP would secure 53 or 54 Senate seats while gaining another six seats in the House of Representatives.

The Democrats are in a state of panic following Joe Biden's performance

The Biden debate fiasco has left Democratic lawmakers and donors reeling, despite the president's campaign's insistence that the performance did not significantly alter the race.

Campaign manager Jen O'Malley opined in a memo made public on Saturday, June 29, that any decline in the polls would be the result of unfavorable press coverage of the debate. In the meantime, Biden has not indicated that he intends to withdraw.

Steve Bannon believes it is too late for Joe Biden

However, Bannon feels it is too late for Biden and that the Trump campaign should begin preparing to take on an alternative. Bannon has spoken highly of those currently leading Trump's campaign and continues to speak with him on occasion.

"We must weaponize their process and show the nation how callous they were, how self-serving they were, how they didn’t put the good of the nation first, they put the good of personal ambition first," Bannon said.

"They’re going to be searching for a messiah, and then you’re going to have the honeymoon," Bannon continued, adding "By the time you get to the Democratic convention in late August, it must be so toxic that whoever it is – if it’s Michelle Obama or Gavin Newsom or whoever it is – that they start off with a minimum of a five-point to seven-point deficit."

Steve Bannon will start his sentence at a low-security federal prison

The Supreme Court denied Bannon's request to have his sentence delayed. Therefore, he will now turn himself in to the authorities and begin serving his time at a low-security federal prison in Connecticut. The seasoned Trump supporter was found guilty in July 2022 of two counts of contempt of Congress for not complying with a subpoena issued by the House committee looking into the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

Still, Bannon, who hosts a well-liked podcast, swore to carry on using his voice while incarcerated, adding that he will be able to connect with fans via emails and interviews. "They can’t shut me up," Bannon said, adding "I’ll be bigger from prison."

Internet says Joe Biden dropping out from race could 'shake things up'

Netizens agreed with Bannon after he warned Trump that Biden's disastrous debate performance could go against him. One X user said, "Trump thrives on chaos and unpredictability and Biden dropping out could shake things up." Another added, "I don't want Biden to drop out. I want to see him lose to Trump…then get arrested."

"I think Biden stepping out could shake things up a lot. Trump's base is solid, but the dynamics would definitely change," remarked one while someone else wrote, "King Biden needs to take this little 'immunity for official acts' protection out for a little spin."
