WASHINGTON, DC: The morning after the presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declined to comment on her reaction to the numerous calls from concerned Democrats urging the 81-year-old incumbent to be replaced on the ticket after his dismal outing, according to The New Republic.

When asked by reporters from CBS, “What do you say to Democrats who feel that there should be another nominee after the president’s debate performance last night?” the former California Democrat avoided the question and simply said, "I'll make a statement about this, but not right now."

What else did Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats say regarding Biden’s debate performance?

Nancy Pelosi's tepid response, or rather, the noticeable lack of it, follows the evasive reply from another top Democrat, Hakeem Jeffries, who also refrained from clearly stating whether he thinks Joe Biden should be replaced as the Democratic nominee, and instead mentioned that he plans to "stand behind the ticket."

“I’m looking forward to hearing from President Biden,” Rep Jeffries (D-NY) told AP’s Farnoush Amiri Friday morning. “And until he articulates a way forward in terms of his vision for America at this moment, I’m going to reserve comment about anything relative to where we are at this moment, other than to say I stand behind the ticket. I stand behind the Senate Democratic majority. And of course, we’re going to do everything that we need to do as House Democrats to win.”

CBS further pressed Nancy Pelosi on her thoughts surrounding the Democrat statesman’s debate performance, which she defended as opposed to former President Trump’s outrageous claims and lies onstage.

“Compared to a person who was lying the whole time?” Pelosi remarked. “We saw integrity on one side and dishonesty on the other. That’s how I saw it.”

The 84-year-old subsequently proceeded to criticize Donald Trump for being a "fool" and emphasized how ridiculous it was that he had accused her of being responsible for the Capitol riot on January 6, saying, “He thinks I planned my own assassination? He’s sicker than I thought.”

After the presidential debate, calls for Biden to step aside have grown louder with Democratic party stalwarts processing Biden’s debate night performance.

Former Democratic senator from Missouri Claire McCaskill, said, “He had one thing he had to accomplish and that was reassure America that he was up to the job at his age, and he failed at that tonight. I’m not the only one whose heart is breaking right now. There’s a lot of people who watched this tonight and felt terribly for Joe Biden.”

Maria Shriver, the former first lady of California took to X and stated, “Tonight was heartbreaking in many ways. This is a big political moment. There’s panic in the Democratic party. It’s going to be a long night.”

Julian Castro, the former Democratic mayor of San Antonio said on X, “Biden had a very low bar going into the debate and failed to clear even that bar. He seemed unprepared, lost, and not strong enough to parry effectively with Trump, who lies constantly.”

Internet weighs in as Nancy Pelosi refutes calls to replace Joe Biden

People online shared their reactions and opinions regarding the former House Speaker's non-answer when pressed on whether it’s time to replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic party's nominee come November.

One person argued, "A big problem that I don't see getting discussed is that Biden won his party's nomination. If the Democrats wanted to replace him, it should have been done months ago. It was already obvious that he had mental health and possibly physical health troubles. With only about 4 months before the election, finding a different person to run while sorting through various prospects would leave them with little or no time to campaign. Then there is the possibility of Biden or someone else suing the Democrats for attempting to replace him. All the talk of replacement only opens a can of worms."

Another person commented, "So, let me get this straight. President Biden won the primaries to be the nomination of the Democratic party, but he could be replaced by Democratic operatives. So much for democracy!"

Another person suggested, "Democrats have to consult with their billionaire backers on whether to dump Biden or not before making any statements. It's how Biden got elected in the first place, and just shows that none of them dare make a decision or are able to show ANY leadership. BOTH parties need to step back and pass some election money reforms like not accepting any money from anyone who can't vote for you (PAC's, Corporations, Unions etc) that gets the voters back in control of the govt instead of the billionaires and special interests."

One person claimed, "I just don't see Joe Biden being selected as the Democrat party candidate for President. His performance in the debate was quite revealing and concerning. How can reasonable people have any confidence in his ability to serve this country effectively?"

Another person remarked, "I felt bad for President Joe Biden. And believe it or not, I think former President Donald Trump felt bad for him as well. Otherwise, Trump would have unleased more then he did at the debate."

Finally, this person said, "She answered the question by not answering the question."
