WASHINGTON, DC: In a move that has ignited a firestorm of controversy, President Joe Biden's proclamation of March 31 as "Transgender Day of Visibility" has collided head-on with Easter Sunday, one of the holiest days on the Christian calendar.

The clash between these two observances has led to calls for an apology from former president Donald Trump and a flurry of condemnation from conservative figures.

Criticism from Trump's camp

Trump's national press secretary Karoline Leavitt minced no words in her criticism, labeling Biden's declaration as "appalling and insulting" to millions of Christians and Catholics.

"We call on Joe Biden's failing campaign and the White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ," Leavitt stated.

The controversy escalated as it was revealed that the White House banned religious egg designs in its Easter Art Event, adding fuel to the fire of accusations of religious insensitivity.

"On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union — where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives," the White House said in a statement.

 

"Today, we send a message to all transgender Americans:  You are loved.  You are heard.  You are understood.  You belong.  You are America, and my entire Administration and I have your back," it added. "NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility," the statement further read.



 

Political condemnation

While Joe Biden's proclamation of March 31 as "Transgender Day of Visibility" has been a recurring event since he took office, the collision with Easter Sunday has intensified the backlash.

Critics argue that the timing of the proclamation is a deliberate affront to Christianity, with prominent politicians and conservative commentators voicing their outrage, Fox News reported.

House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the move as a betrayal of the central tenet of Easter.

"The Biden White House has betrayed the central tenet of Easter — which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ," Johnson posted on X.

"Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as 'Transgender Day'—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note," the House Speaker added. 

Former Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner expressed disgust, insisting that Easter Sunday should be reserved for acknowledging the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"I am absolutely disgusted that Joe Biden has declared the most Holy of Holy days - a self-proclaimed devout Catholic - as Transgender Day of Visibility," Jenner wrote, adding, "The only thing you should be declaring on this day is ‘HE is Risen’."

Donald Trump Jr took to social media to decry what he sees as the left's attempt to replace religious observance with allegiance to the transgender movement. "This is the left's new religion. They want people worshiping the trans flag instead of God. They must be stopped," he wrote.

Trump Jr's sentiments were echoed by former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who questioned the rationale behind Biden's chosen date for the proclamation. "Joe Biden just proclaimed that ‘Transgender Visibility Day’ is on Sunday, March 31st. I wonder how he came up with that date," he wrote.

Republican lawmakers also weighed in, with Representative Alex Mooney labeling it a direct assault on Christianity. "Joe Biden has proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day of Visibility,’" Mooney wrote on X.

"What a coincidence on the timing, right? This is a direct assault on Christianity. Yet another attack on religion and traditions by this administration," he added.

Representative Diana Harshbarger accused the Biden administration of intentional disregard for religious sensitivities. "This is a direct assault on Christianity. It’s evident the left is determined to undermine our religion and traditions," she wrote on X. "This isn’t just blatant disregard, it’s intentional."



 



 



 



 



 



 

Internet rallies behind Trump as he condemns Biden

As the controversy rages on, supporters of Trump have rallied behind his call for an apology. "This is truly a battle between good and evil," one social media user posted on X.

"Thank you, President Trump," another wrote.

"Keep calling him out at rallies!" someone else insisted.
