NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a recent interview, comedian Bill Maher attacked the Left and claimed that the woke ideas of liberals have contributed to the popularity of former President Donald Trump.

Journalist Tina Brown questioned Maher on Tuesday, June 25, regarding Trump's enduring popularity even in the wake of the January 6 riot as well as the former president's followers whom she likened to a cult.

Bill Maher said that the Left 'are aggressively anti-common sense'

"I mean part of it, the Left has to own. They are aggressively anti-common sense. The Democrats keep running on this one idea, saying to the American people, ‘You can’t possibly think you can do worse than Donald Trump.’ And they keep saying, ‘Yes, we can. Yes, we can,’" Maher said during an interview at the Aspen Ideas Festival

Bill Maher claimed his friends complained to him about their 'uber woke' children

The HBO host claimed that his friends had bemoaned to him about their "uber woke" children who are in their 20s, adding, "they’re driving their parents crazy."

"‘You don’t get it, mom. That’s old thinking.’ And I’m like, ‘Don’t get what? Abolish the police, tear down statues of Lincoln, maybe give communism another shot, get rid of the Border Patrol, get rid of capitalism, White supremacy has never been worse, gender is always just a social construct. It’s OK to have penises in the women’s swimming pool, in women’s prisons.' No, it’s not that I’m old, it’s that your ideas are stupid," Maher said, according to Fox News

Maher, an outspoken critic of the former president, said conservatives tell him, "what you don’t get about Trump is we don’t like him either." "They just hate the other stuff more," Brown added.

"I don’t blame them, because a lot of it is closer to their own home. Like the things you hate about Trump, democracy, I understand why that’s the biggest issue. But a lot of people, it’s kind of vague. Ukraine is very far away. But you know, the stuff about family and race and gender, it’s very close to their own home," Maher said.

Bill Maher said the upcoming presidential debate will not be that interesting

According to Maher, the CNN presidential debate on Thursday, June 27, will be "less interesting than we think." "First of all, Biden, we're just looking for proof of life," he said, adding "He is benefiting from low expectations." Maher was upbeat about Biden as well, saying that while he can "do the job," he can't "run for the job."

"And Trump is going to be Trump, and I think we're going to come away and nobody's mind is going to change," he added.

Bill Maher reveals why Joe Biden pushed Donald Trump for a debate

In May, Maher implied that Joe Biden was only pushing for a debate with Trump because he was "losing."

"Well, I think the guy who has more to prove is Biden," Maher said, adding "Trump is a known commodity. They know he's gonna be an a------. He's going to be lurking and growling and not obeying the rules and everything else. But Biden, they want to see proof of life."

Internet users divided after Bill Maher's remarks concerning the Leftists

Netizens gave mixed responses after the HBO host slammed the Leftists and their woke agendas for benefitting Trump. One X user tweeted while disagreeing with Maher, "Trump voters don't have common sense." "And anti-government anti-democratic anti-voting from the far Right turns off most voters," remarked one.

"As a Latino voter, I think Trump was better on the economy, the border and Trump had no new major wars that started in the world during his presidency. Vote Trump in 2024," one user opined while another added, "Maher will still vote Democrat. He's a stooge."

One user tweeted, "What Bill failed to add is that the majority of the left are aggressively anti-common sense. The vast majority of them still believe in the Russia hoax, unicorns, and UFO's." "Same thing with MAGA extremism…helps Biden even more!" commented one.
