WASHINGTON, DC: House Majority Whip Tom Emmer has endorsed Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race, reported The Hill.

The Minnesota Congressman was the only one left among the top five members of House GOP leadership to endorse the former President's second White House bid.

"Democrats have made clear they will use every tool in their arsenal to try and keep Joe Biden and his failed policies in power. We cannot let them. It's time for Republicans to unite behind our party's clear frontrunner, which is why I am proud to endorse Donald J Trump for President," the House GOP whip said in a statement posted on X.

He captioned the January 3 post, "We must stop Joe Biden and his failed policies. Read my full statement endorsing @realDonaldTrump for President."

The other top GOP leadership in the House of Representatives, including Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, and National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Richard Hudson, have endorsed Trump in his 2024 presidential bid.

His support comes amid Trump's appeal to the SCOTUS to overturn the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling barring his candidacy from the state primary ballot and another at a Maine Superior Court questioning the Secretary of State Shenna Bellows similar decision citing his involvement in the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

Tom Emmer's endorsement ahead of Iowa caucus

With only little more than a week left for the Iowa Republican caucus, Emmer's endorsement adds to the former President's support along with his sizeable dominance in opinion polls.

The Iowa caucus, scheduled for January 15, is the first in line to decide the Republican nominee representing the GOP in the 2024 presidential election.

Based on a CBS News report, Minnesota's Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) chair, Ken Martin, slammed the latest endorsements for Trump, including Emmer's.

"Minnesota Republicans are now openly admitting what has been obvious for a while — they have become the party of, by, and for Donald Trump," Martin stated.

"Minnesota voters have repeatedly rejected Donald Trump's anti-democracy, anti-abortion politics and his plans to take away working families' health insurance, but Minnesota Republicans are doubling down. Republicans up and down the ballot in November will have to answer for why they are abandoning Minnesota values and kissing Donald Trump's ring."

Irrespective of public support, Emmer does not share an amicable relationship with Trump.

According to Fox News, the White House hopeful disparaged the House Majority Whip, calling him a "RINO" and a "globalist" who "never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement" as the latter announced the bid for House Speakership in October 2023 after Kevin Mccarthy was ousted.

Internet slams Tom Emmer

Netizens are baffled at Emmer's endorsement of Trump, especially after the latter attempted to sabotage his chance to be the Speaker. Calling him an "embarrassment" and a "disgrace," social media users warned him he would be remembered in history for his wrong choice.

One user wrote, "The chameleon Emmer sees which way the wind is blowing and makes a brave decision.'

Another user remarked, "Sucking up to the man who sunk your chance to be speaker. What an embarrassment."

"Your support for Donald Trump‘s authoritarian power grab is duly noted," read a third reaction.

Another added, "You’re a disgrace Tom and history will not be kind to you!"

"RINO loser," a fifth user labeled Emmer.

"You're endorsing a guy facing 91 felony charges in multiple state and federal jurisdictions. That tells America all it needs to know about your character, and your party's," read a sixth response.

One user added, "It's a new level of spineless cowardice that you are endorsing the man who sabotaged your chance to become Speaker."

"Ridiculous," stated another.
