LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In his Wednesday night monologue, Stephen Colbert hailed what he deemed  'historic day' as President Joe Biden and former President, now presidential candidate, Donald Trump agreed to two debates preceding the November election.

Colbert couldn't help but express admiration for Biden's challenge to Trump and the stringent rules Biden demanded. With a characteristic wit, Colbert quipped that these rules would render Trump "look like the world’s angriest mime."

Reflecting on past debates

Colbert's humor didn't stop there. He joked about the anticipation surrounding the upcoming debates, humorously reminiscing about the last time these two political heavyweights faced off in October 2020.

With a nod to Biden's video challenging Trump to pick debate dates, Colbert gleefully highlighted Biden's jab at Trump's legal entanglements,“Joe Biden and Donald Trump have agreed to two presidential debates. Yeah, my friend. Just like that they’re going head to head, toe to toe, mano a mango,” Colbert joked. “These two men last debated back in October, October of 2020. We all remember gathering with our friends and families on the couch to say, ‘oh god I hope this doesn’t happen again in four years'."

Deconstructing Joe Biden's challenge

Stephen Colbert proceeded to showcase a segment from the video Biden unveiled, wherein he challenged Trump to the debate while teasing him about his legal predicaments.

“First pick the dates,” Biden quipped, adding, “I hear you’re free on Wednesdays,” an obvious reference to Trump's obligation to attend his New York criminal trial on weekdays, barring Wednesdays.

Following this jest, Colbert invited his viewers to witness his reaction on the "Damn Cam," turning to the camera to deliver a resounding "Daaaamn."

After poking fun at Trump's reaction to the video, Colbert reiterated Biden's debate conditions to his audience, emphasizing Biden's preference for no audience and a studio setup equipped with microphones programmed to cut off speakers who exceed their allotted time. Expanding on this, Colbert humorously envisioned Trump silenced by a muted microphone, likening him to "the world’s angriest mime."

Social media buzz surrounding Trump's debate participation

One user wrote, "Donald Trump will spend the entire debate being told not to interrupt president Biden."
