WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump, in a fundraising email, falsely claimed that he "nearly escaped death" during the FBI's search of his Mar-a-Lago luxury residence in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2022 for classified documents, according to CNN.

The 45th President made the startling claim after recently unsealed documents regarding the FBI's raid on Mar-a-Lago in connection to the classified documents case referenced the potential use of deadly force.

The 2022 'Operations Order' stated, "Law Enforcement officers of the Department of Justice may use deadly force when necessary."

The fundraising email sent on Tuesday, May 21, bore the subject line, "They were authorized to shoot me!"

"I nearly escaped death. Biden's DOJ was locked and loaded for deadly force at Mar-a-Lago …," Trump said in the email.

FBI dismisses Trump's claim

In response to Trump's distortion regarding the FBI's authority to use deadly force during the Mar-a-Lago raid, the organization said it was a "standard protocol."

"The FBI followed standard protocol in this search as we do for all search warrants, which includes a standard policy statement limiting the use of deadly force," the FBI said in a statement as per USA Today. "No one ordered additional steps to be taken and there was no departure from the norm in this matter."

Despite his unfounded assertion, Trump was not present at Mar-a-Lago during the search. The FBI conducted the operation while the real estate mogul typically resided at his property in Bedminster, New Jersey.

"You know they're just itching to do the unthinkable," Trump asserted in an alert for his supporters.  "But here's the one thing they don't know: WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER!"

Trump also vented his anger towards President Joe Biden for permitting the FBI to employ lethal force during the search. In a Truth Social post on May 21, he labeled the raid as "Illegal and Unconstitutional."

He further characterized his successor as a "significant threat to democracy" and deemed him "mentally unfit to hold office."

A hardcore Trump ally, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, also baselessly argued on X (formerly Twitter) that Biden's DOJ and FBI "were planning to assassinate" the ex-president.

Trump was indicted in 2023 for illegally retaining classified materials at his private residence after leaving the White House in early 2021.

Internet trolls Trump's distortion of the FBI raid

Netizens ridiculed the White House hopeful for claiming he nearly escaped death during the 2022 FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.

A user called Trump a "Drama Queen." Meanwhile, another said, "He wasn’t even there. And the Secret Service and DOJ knew that. What a little whiner he is."

"Nearly escaped death but lived to tell the tale," a user quipped. A response read, "Nearly escaped death while he was in Jersey for the summer when they served the warrant at maralago, what a snowflake." [sic]

Another person wrote, "Playing the victim as usual. His MAGA cult says he's so brave meanwhile all he is is a coward."

"But alas, he succumbed and has been tweeting from the great beyond for the past year and a half," someone else quipped.

An individual wrote, "He 'nearly' escaped death???? That explains why he can't keep his eyes open," referring to Trump sleeping during his hush money trial.

Another mocking remark read, "They must have had really, really long range rifles since he was in New York at the time." [sic]
