WASHINGTON, DC: Former Donald Trump aide Mike Gill, who got shot by a carjacker in Washington DC on Monday, January 29, 2024, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, February 3, according to Fox 5 DC.

His wife Kristina Gill stated in a statement, “It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill.”

"His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled," she added.

Gill previously worked for Donald Trump as the Commodities Futures Trading Commission's chief operating officer, according to a report by the New York Post.

What were the events leading up to Mike Gill’s death?

According to authorities, the father of three was picking up his wife from work when Artell Cunningham, 28, got inside his parked car outside an office building on K Street and shot him in the head at 5:45 pm.

Following the shooting, Cunningham fled on foot and subsequently attempted to steal another vehicle around 7 pm on 3rd Street.

The carjacker shot and killed 35-year-old Alberto Vazquez Jr around ten minutes later before driving away in his car.

Cunningham stole two more cars before reportedly opening fire on a DC police officer on I-295 and a Maryland State Police trooper assisting a disabled vehicle on I-95 in Laurel, Maryland, at around 2:30 am the following day.

No police officers were injured.

Cunningham allegedly approached New Carrollton police officers in Prince George's County at approximately 4:30 am brandishing two firearms before being shot and killed.

Officials believe the shooting spree was the result of a mental breakdown.

What did Mike Gill’s associates say about his death?

Mike Gill's friend of fifteen years, Drew Maloney, who is President and CEO of the American Investment Council, expressed his gratitude for their friendship in a statement.

Maloney told Fox 5 DC, “Mike was not just a close friend; he was an extended member of our family. Our daughters’ friendship blossomed into a beautiful bond, and it was a testament to Mike’s warmth and kindness that he welcomed us into his life with open arms.”

Former CFTF Chairman J Christopher Giancarlo described Gill as "one of the most wonderful, honest, earnest, and open-hearted persons on this earth."

"Words cannot express the tragedy of the loss of this fine man, colleague, and cherished friend," Giancarlo said in a statement, adding, "He will be sorely missed and long remembered."

Gill, who had been serving as the senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council, is survived by his beloved wife Kristina, and three children -- Sean, Brian, and Annika.
