WASHINGTON, DC: Speaker Mike Johnson has called for President Joe Biden’s cabinet to consider using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

Johnson's comments came after Biden's presidential debate performance, which has been receiving both praise and criticism.

The debate left many questioning Joe Biden’s ability to lead, with some members of his own party expressing concern. Despite these criticisms, Biden's team remains confident in his candidacy.

“There’s a lot of people asking about the 25th Amendment, invoking the 25th Amendment right now because this is an alarming situation,” Johnson said according to The Hill.

“Our adversaries see the weakness in this White House as we all do. I take no pleasure in saying that. I think this is a very dangerous situation,” he added.

“I would ask the Cabinet members to search their hearts,” Johnson continued, referencing reports of Democrats “panicking” after Biden’s debate performance.

Mike Johnson says he'd be 'panicking' if he were a Democrat today

Speaker Mike Johnson said if he were a Democrat he would have also panicked over Joe Biden's performance.

“I would be panicking too if I were a Democrat today and that was my nominee. I think they know they have a serious problem," he added.

“But it’s not just political. It’s not just the Democratic Party. It’s the entire country. We have a serious problem here, because we have a president who, by all appearances, is not up to the task,” Johnson stated.

“And these are very dangerous times. This is a very serious moment in American history. And it needs to be regarded and handled as such. And we hope that they will do their duty, as we all seek to do our duty to do best for the American people," he added

California Gov Gavin Newsom defends Joe Biden’s debate performance

Even though Joe Biden was hailed for winning by substance, his debate performance was seen as a loss by some even by fellow Democrats.

His voice was raspy, which the White House attributed to a cold, and he struggled to make clear points on multiple answers.

Biden’s team has dismissed speculation that he could be replaced atop the Democratic ticket.

“I am old fashioned, but on the substance Joe Biden won the debate last night. That is what matters to me,” California Governor Gavin Newsom wrote in a Biden campaign fundraising pitch on Friday, according to The Hill.

“All this other talk… it’s unhelpful and unnecessary," he added.

Newsom, considered one of Biden’s top Democratic campaign surrogates, acknowledged the debate concerns but remained supportive.

“We aren’t going to turn our backs because of one performance. What kind of party does that?” he asked.

“Don’t look at 30 minutes… look at 3 and a half years of Joe Biden as president,” Newsom added in the email linking to the Democratic National Committee’s online donation portal. “That’s what I intend to do, and I hope you’ll join me.”

Internet reacts to Mike Johnson's comments over Joe Biden's debate performance

Former President Donald Trump also weighed in during a Fox News interview on Friday, stating he thinks Joe Biden “will be the nominee” despite the backlash.

“They wouldn’t have done any better,” Trump said. “No one else would have been better."

Netizens elicited varied responses to the presidential debate. Some supported Johnson's comments as one wrote. "I agree."

Another person wrote, “We can’t wait 7 months. Biden is clearly not running the country, and nothing in the constitution grants the authority to do so to whoever is….. Crimes have been committed here.”

One added, “Joe isn’t even fit enough to sit in the Oval until January 2024. He’s obviously not running the country and the biggest question on everyone’s mind is this: which unelected individual is making decisions on behalf of the American people?”

One countered Johnson’s statements, “Says the man who still has a job thanks to Dems votes. Hilarious.”

Another criticized Johnson personally, saying, “Nasty little thing to say from a small-in-stature man.”

Some predicted Biden would lose the election following the debate and his removal was not required, with one writing, “I mean, he’s about it to lose his job.”

Another added, “No, don’t…I want to see Biden’s fortified election overturned by the will of the electorate.”
