WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed she had provided House Speaker Mike Johnson an escape route before attempting to unseat him in an unsuccessful mutiny, according to the New York Post.

The Georgia lawmaker met with Johnson at least two times in the last week before officially triggering a vote on Wednesday, May 8. Greene's motion was killed within minutes as Democrats joined Republicans to back the Speaker.

Marjorie Taylor Greene gave Mike Johnson an ultimatum regarding special counsel Jack Smith's removal ahead of ouster attempt

Talking about the apparent ultimatum on Fox News' 'Sunday Morning Futures', Greene noted, "I said, ‘Look, if you’ll defund [special counsel] Jack Smith, then I’ll reconsider this motion. This is something the American people are sick and tired of. They’re fed up with Republicans that will not defend President Trump."

Johnson told reporters that he was open to changing the regulations regulating special counsels last week, saying, "We’re looking very intently at it because I think the problem has reached a crescendo."

Later, he bluntly stated to Politico that he was not ready to remove Smith from his position using the appropriations process. Johnson remarked, "That’s not something you wave a wand and just eliminate the special counsel as a provision."

He added, "There is a necessity for a function like that because sometimes the Department of Justice — which is an executive branch agency — can’t necessarily, without a conflict of interest, investigate or prosecute the president who’s their boss, or the president’s family."

Speaker Johnson lacks the power to unilaterally stop funding Smith's office. The GOP is unable to defund the special counsel because of the Democrats' hold on the Senate and their extremely slim majority in the lower house.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the speaker wrote, "It is impossible to deny the judicial system in our country has been weaponized against President Trump. I am working with Chairmen Jordan and Comer on measures to rein in the abuses of Special Counsel Jack Smith and hold him accountable."

Infuriated by the speaker's remarks to Politico, Greene stated, "Mike Johnson’s owned by the Democrats and that proved me to be right again."

Before giving priority to her request to remove Johnson, Greene made her demands known to the public. These included stopping aid to the war-torn Ukraine, defunding the special counsel, passing 12 appropriations bills rather than one omnibus, and adhering to the Hastert Rule.

Internet takes jibes at Marjorie Taylor Greene as she reveals ultimatum to Speaker Mike Johnson

One said, "It would do Republicans good to see her gone," and another asked, "Moscow Margy did what again ?"

"Anything to do with holding her breath?" quipped a person, with someone else inquiring, "Has she done one damn thing other than trying to impeach or oust members of the government?"

An individual expressed, "She wanted to defund Special Counsel? The border was never mentioned, of course. Thought the delay tactics by non-uni party members was working smoothly."
