WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's below par performance at the first presidential debate has led GOP leaders of New York and New Jersey to believe that Donald Trump could be the first Republican to emerge victorious in their states in four decades.

Despite the long odds of flipping the blue states, party insiders expect Trump to perform strongly in the suburbs, which would be beneficial to GOP House incumbents to retain the seats won in 2022.

Trump is trailing behind Biden by only eight percentage points in New York as per a recent Siena College poll taken a week prior to the June 27 debate. An insider source from the Trump campaign said that New Jersey was a "toss-up," citing internal polling.

New York State Republican Party chairman Ed Cox indicates a 'political realignment ' in New York

"Trump can win New York just like Ronald Reagan did in 1980," New York State Republican Party chairman Ed Cox claimed, according to the New York Post.

Cox pushed for Trump's win in the Empire States, noting former President Ronald Raegan's victory was due to his Democratic predecessor Jimmy Carter's "stagflation." Similarly, Bidenflation has adversely impacted many voters.

"New York, a Democratic stronghold for decades, is within reach for Trump. The conditions are ripe for political realignment with New York part of a Trump victory," the NY GOP chairman said. "While New York is a blue state, it is more blue-collar blue than Upper West Side blue."

He also claimed Trump's campaign's focus on the border and immigration crisis, economy, and crime would shift angered Democratic-leaning voters.

New Jersey GOP leaders hope for a red wave after George HW Bush's 1988 win

Following Biden's debate debacle, New Jersey Republicans wish that Biden could turn the blue state red since the 1988 victory of George HW Bush against Democrat Michael Dukakis.

"Biden's debate performance was so bad that New Jersey is definitely in play. The result is that our US Senate candidate, Curtis Bashaw, has a real shot, and Congressman [Tom] Kean's re-election was just made easier," said the Garden State's National Republican Campaign Committee member Bill Palatucci.

In an e-fundraising email soon after the debate, the state GOP declared in bold letters, "NEW JERSEY IS IN PLAY."

"We are working day in and day out to reach every single voter in New Jersey and spread the word that we are in this to win it!" the New Jersey Republican Party said.

Despite some Democrats and The New York Times editorial board urging the 81-year-old incumbent to exit the 2024 race, Democratic lawmakers from the Empire State under Gov Kathy Hochul's leadership have defended Biden.

In an MSNBC interview on Sunday, June 30, she downplayed the debate fiasco as a "rough night," adding Biden was  "energetic, fully alert" when she met him at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center the day after the debate.

Internet dismisses NY and NJ GOP leaders' hope of Trump flipping the states red

Responding to the GOP leader's belief that Trump would win NY and NJ after Biden's poor debate show, netizens suggested that it was "highly unlikely."

"Zero chance," a user plainly stated.

"In your dreams... Over 90% of us still have visions of refrigerator trucks in our worst nightmares," another remarked.

"GOP leaders are liars. It is kind of like saying that Trump will get the black vote," added a third user.

"Waste of time and effort, he'll never win New Jersey or New York. Focus on the battleground States where he's leading and the ones where he's close. Stay on task, don't get cute because Biden had a bad debate performance, people will still put the mummy in office," read a fourth response.

"GOP leaders will say anything at this point," another person said.

"He's NOT winning New York; of course @GOP leaders are going to say that-it won't happen though," someone else chimed in.

"Oh the GOP leaders say… couldn’t be any lies wrapped up in that. Might as well just give TFG the office back Ppl never remember the first debate which is usually in the fall. You honestly think ppl are going to remember an early summer debate?! lol Hilarious," an individual wrote.

"Highly unlikely, even after Biden's disastrous debate performance," another user claimed.
