ATLANTA, GEORGIA: President Joe Biden reached his breaking point during a debate on Thursday, June 27, confronting former president Donald Trump over a series of alleged lies related to immigration, The Hill reported.

The debate, hosted by CNN in Atlanta, quickly became heated as Biden attempted to redirect the discussion toward the failed bipartisan Senate border deal. "Everything he says is a lie. Every single one," Biden declared, his frustration palpable.

This strong rebuke came in response to Trump’s repeated claims that the Biden administration had deliberately opened the US border to criminals and terrorists. Trump painted a dire picture, asserting that the country was being flooded with dangerous individuals.

"He decided to open up our border, open up our country to people that are from prisons, people that are from mental institutions, insane asylum, terrorists," Trump claimed, echoing a familiar but debunked narrative.

Trump also linked immigration to rising crime rates, a core issue for Republicans as the November elections approach. However, comprehensive research contradicts this assertion, indicating that the presence of immigrants often correlates with lower crime rates.

A recent Cato Institute paper supports this, revealing that immigrants generally commit fewer crimes than native-born citizens. The study, which analyzed data from the Texas Department of Public Safety, found that the conviction rate for undocumented immigrants was consistently lower than that of native-born citizens from 2013 to 2022.

Despite these facts, Trump persisted with his alarming rhetoric. He described the United States as a "rat’s nest" overrun by terrorists from around the world, not just from South America. "We have the largest number of terrorists coming into our country right now, all terrorists, all over the world," Trump exclaimed.

Trump also criticized Biden’s stance that Congress should enhance the executive's powers and resources to manage the border effectively. "He didn’t need legislation, because I didn’t have legislation, I said close the border," Trump argued, simplifying the complex issue of immigration reform.

At this point, Biden’s patience wore thin. His assertion, "Everything he says is a lie. Every single one," became a defining moment in the debate. Yet, Biden soon shifted away from immigration to address Trump’s remarks about veterans, leaving the topic momentarily.

Trump, however, was relentless, bringing up immigration and border security in response to various questions throughout the debate.
