Trump claims gas prices will drop below $2 a gallon after US ‘wins’ Iran war

Donald Trump also reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, saying the change would 'happen quickly'

WASHINGTON, DC: On Monday night, Sept 7, President Donald Trump predicted that gas prices would drop sharply once the US wins its conflict with Iran.

As Americans are struggling with gas that’s clocking in at more than $4 a gallon, Trump insists the cost will drop not just to $3 a gallon but under $2, a price not seen since the Covid-19 pandemic was raging and causing a massive drop in demand.

A war Trump increasingly downplays

“Oil prices will drop precipitously, like everything else is dropping (but more!), when we WIN the war with Iran,” Trump said. “Three Dollars a gallon, but ultimately, below Two Dollars a gallon. It will all happen quickly, and Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon. MAGA! President DJT.”

Trump’s approval ratings have taken a beating, thanks mostly to those soaring prices and a war that’s become deeply unpopular.

The war started back on February 28, when the US and Israel launched joint airstrikes on Iran. Since then, 18 American service members have died.

Now, more than half a year later, the fighting drags on, and the administration still can’t convince anyone there’s an end in sight, or that the costs, in lives or dollars, are under control.

Vice President JD Vance, hosting the first White House briefing in 40 days last week, answered a question about when the conflict would end by declaring, “I wouldn’t call it a war.”

Trump himself declared the conflict “small potatoes” last week while talking to reporters in the Oval Office.

“I’ll tell you what, a lot of people don’t call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it’s small potatoes for us. It’s not a big thing,” Trump said.

A familiar pattern of optimistic forecasts

Trump went further in downplaying the conflict's current intensity, describing US military action as sporadic rather than sustained.

“I would say that it’s intermittent,” he added. “You know, we do intermittent strikes, so I heard what he said, and it was interesting because I think that there is a lot of truth. We are not fighting right now. There is no fighting. We are taking on a lot of oil. We control the Hormuz Strait. We control it very strongly.”

Monday’s gas price prediction is just the latest in a series of optimistic forecasts Trump’s shared lately, about the economy, world affairs, and more.

Still, if you look at the numbers, gas prices, poll results, how long the war’s dragging on, the picture isn’t quite as rosy.

Trump hasn’t laid out any real evidence or a clear end date for the conflict.
