PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Melania Trump, the former first lady of the United States, was conspicuous by her absence from the Trump family's Christmas card this year, reportedly because she was tending to her ailing mother.

Melania's mother, Amalija Knavs, is said to be unwell, and she chose to remain by her side instead of attending the party where the photograph for the card was taken.

According to a source close to the former first lady, she did not attend the Trump family's Christmas celebration at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, to spend time with her ailing mother.

The source told Fox News Digital, "Melania has always been very devoted to her entire family. It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother."

Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, and their son, Barron, were present at the Christmas dinner with other family members at the Mar-a-Lago estate.

Which members of the Trump family were featured on this year’s Christmas card?

The recent Trump family Christmas card, shared by Donald Trump Jr’s fiancee Kimberly Guilfoyle on her Instagram story, caught public attention for the notable absence of Melania Trump.

The photo included Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Barron Trump, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Tiffany Trump, and Michael Boulos.

While Melania's absence from the photo may have raised concerns, it was not an unexpected occurrence.

However, recent reports suggest that Melania Trump has agreed to increase her public appearances to support her husband's bid for re-election in 2024.

The move is said to have been prompted by the former president's confidence in securing the coveted seat at the Oval Office once again.

Insiders suggest that Melania Trump will be taking on more top-tier diplomatic appearances in the coming years, a marked shift in her public role that has been agreed upon between her and her husband, Donald Trump, as part of their strategy to secure a second term in the White House.

"Melania realizes it's her time to join the ranks of historic first ladies and leave her mark on history," a source revealed to RadarOnline.com. "She feels better prepared for her potential role the second time around."

In an interview with Fox News earlier this year, Melania expressed her complete support for her husband's presidential campaign and her eagerness in "restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength" during his possible second term in the White House.

She conveyed her willingness to serve as first lady again, calling it a "privilege."

In the event that she is granted the opportunity to serve as first lady again in 2024, Melania has stated that she would continue to prioritize initiatives that center around the well-being and development of children, ensuring that they have access to the necessary support and resources to reach their full potential.

Internet reacts to the reason behind Melania's absence lately

On X, some people expressed their heartfelt wishes towards the former first lady while some took a more snarkier approach to the entire ordeal.

One user said: "Hope she gets well soon!"

Another X user wrote: "Melania here are prayers for your mother’s recovery."

Another user remarked: "So, they had a big celebration while her mom was sick? That is pretty sick!"

One user quipped: "Wishing Melania's mother -- who came to America via chain migration while Donald Trump, as president, attacked chain migration -- well in her recovery."

Another X user said: "Prayers for your mother @MELANIATRUMP".

Finally, this user tweeted: "Funny how fast this came out after people started asking where is Melania?"
