LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A storm has erupted after popular psychologist and TV personality Dr Phil McGraw called on President Joe Biden to take a cognitive test to prove his mental fitness for office.

His remarks come as Biden continues facing criticism over occasional memory lapses and verbal gaffes that have raised bipartisan questions over his ability to handle the demands of the presidency at age 81, as per New York Post.

Dr Phil urges President Joe Biden to take cognitive test

During an appearance on 'Real Time With Bill Maher' HBO talk show on Friday, March 1, Dr Phil stated "people that have nothing to hide, hide nothing" when asked if Biden should undergo cognitive testing. His remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the 81-year-old president’s frequent gaffes and memory lapses.

The White House maintains that Biden is mentally sharp and fully capable of carrying out his duties. However, the President has faced criticism recently after confusing world leaders' names, losing his train of thought during speeches, and making factually incorrect historical references.

Last month, Biden claimed on three separate occasions to have spoken with deceased foreign leaders. He also mixed up the presidents of Mexico and Egypt during a press conference.

Such incidents have raised bipartisan concerns. In a report earlier this month, special counsel Robert Hur stated that potential jurors would likely view Biden sympathetically as a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

Over 80% of voters in seven battleground states also said Biden is "too old" for the presidency, according to a recent poll.

Maher mocked Biden’s frequent confusion and unsteady gait during Friday's show.

However, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre maintains the President is mentally fit and "passes a cognitive test every day" through his handling of complex policy issues.

Internet rallies behind Dr Phil's call for Biden to undergo cognitive test

The Internet swiftly rallied behind Dr Phil's call for Biden to undergo a cognitive test.

One X user passionately exclaimed, "Louder, Dr. Phil. Much louder for those in the back."

Another user conveyed gratitude, stating, "Thank you, Dr. Phil."

A third user echoed their agreement with a straightforward "Definitely!"

Meanwhile, a reflective comment emerged, pointing out, "You can't fail a test you don't take."

A more critical perspective surfaced with a fifth user stating, "He would fail indefinitely."

Finally, a sixth user offered a blunt assessment, claiming, "Oh, he has a lot to hide."
