'Only reason I would pay for HBO': Fans excited as Bill Maher announces return of 'Real Time'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO has formally revealed the release date for Season 22 of 'Real Time With Bill Maher', through a recap of all the popular episodes of 2023 concentrated in a one-minute clip titled 'Sanity Needs a Safe Space'.
The upcoming installment of the renowned show is slated to air on January 19 from 10.00 to 11.00 pm ET/7.00 to 8.00 pm PT, with a rerun scheduled for the same night.
The January 5 clip showed all the snippets where Maher discussed various topics, some of them were about Republicans and Democrats waiting for their nominees to die, Trump's chances at running world from Mar-a-Lago while under house arrest, Young Americans showing support for Bin Laden, with the host criticizing white trash in Congress and rising prices, fanning the wokeness and liberalism - all under the episode title 'Sanity needs a safe space'.
A quick recap of 'Real Time'
The return of the show aligns with the usual schedule of 'Real Time', despite the unconventional nature of the past year.
'Real Time' faced episode disruptions over the summer due to issues with the Writers Guild of America. Maher initially proposed airing new episodes without a writing staff during stalled negotiations but faced immediate backlash.
Eventually, the late-night TV host reconsidered and backed down from the plan.
Fortunately for Maher, the Writers Guild of America reached an acceptable agreement shortly after the "controversy," allowing the show to resume. Looking ahead to 2024, late-night TV will benefit from Bill Maher's presence.
'Real Time' consistently provides a diverse guest lineup and varied opinions, making it a crucial show, especially with the upcoming November election promising a significant year for Maher.
'Thank god this show is around'
Consequently, netizens have shown support and anticipation for the show's return, with people commenting, "This show is the only reason I keep paying for HBO."
One user said, "Can’t wait for Bill Maher to return. He makes Friday nights on HBO fantastic for 2 decades now."
One even had a contrasting outlook, writing, "Bill, I don't always agree with you, but I think your show is as important as any show out there these days. We need a place where both sides can debate in a logical way without us coming away hating one another. True progress is meeting in the middle where both sides can come away with part of what they're looking for."
Another user said, "Full transparency. Knowing this show is on Friday night, is the only thing that gets me through the week. Thankyou Bill for bringing back common sense. Hope to see your show live some day while I’m still on the right side of the lawn…"
"Thank god this show is around. The only shot at critical thinking we have left," one fan wrote.
