WASHINGTON, DC: On Saturday, May 25, former President Donald Trump promised to reduce the prison sentence of Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, an online platform for selling drugs.

This pledge was delivered during his address at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, DC, as a component of his endeavors to secure the backing of skeptical party members, many of whom held signs reading "FREE ROSS."

During his time in office, the MAGA figurehead had considered intervening in order to release Ulbricht but ultimately opted against it, according to Fox News.

What did Donald Trump say regarding Ross Ulbricht at the Libertarian National Convention?

"If you vote for me, on day one I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, to a sentence of time served," the ex-president said to rapturous applause and cheering from the libertarian crowd. "He’s already served 11 years. We’re going to get him home."

In 2015, Ross Ulbricht, now 40 years old, was handed a life sentence by a judge who cited six deaths resulting from drugs bought on his website and his involvement in five attempted murders as grounds for the ruling.

Ulbricht managed the website from 2011 to 2013 when he was apprehended.

Trump also committed to preserving cryptocurrencies by putting an end to President Joe Biden's "crusade to crush crypto."

"We're going to stop it. I will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of Bitcoin will be made in the USA, not driven overseas," the 2024 presumptive Republican nominee remarked. "I will support the right of self-custody. To the nation's 50 million crypto holders, I say this: with your vote, I will keep [Senator] Elizabeth Warren and her goons away from your bitcoin. And I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency."

Trump's visit was seen as part of an overall strategy to win over potential supporters in non-Republican areas after independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr addressed the convention on Friday.

Internet chided Trump for claiming to release Ross Ulbricht

One X user asked, "So, he wants people to buy drugs on the dark web?"

Another user remarked, "The Law & Order President is gonna let all the criminals out... if you vote for him."

Another user said, "Sure just like he is going to pardon all the J6 hostages as he calls them. Trump tells people what they want to hear but doesn’t deliver. It’s like the old saying, 'he talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.'"

One user wrote, "Sure seems like he's desperately telling everyone what he thinks they want to hear to get votes... party of law and order???"

Another X user quipped, "Really tough on the drug traffickers."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Also don't forget that Trump promised to put Libertarians on positions in his White House staff. Between them & all the promises he made to the oil companies, I doubt there will be any positions for any MAGA to fill. Unless of course Trump is lying Trump wouldn't lie would he." [sic]
